Alex Rodriguez's Yankee crisis

02:26 AM ET 10.15 | First, Alex Rodriguez was pulled for pinch-hitter Raul Ibanez in the ALDS. Then he was benched. Sure, the New York spotlight can amplify a bad stretch - and Rodriguez has been in a bad stretch - but the future Hall of Famer isn't getting younger. Will this October slump result in a change in Rodriguez's spot on the Yankees next year? The remainder of the Yankees playoff run in 2012 could define how he's used for the rest of his contract while with the Yankees - or if he can remain in New York at all.

If I were Yankee management and on the hook for about $160 million over the next five years ($30 million next year alone) for an over-the-hill former PED user I would start serious discussions with his Agent about buying out his contract at some present value figure that makes sense to both parties. He's an albatross around their necks.
Let ARod go, and if another team wants to sign him, good luck.

It's a guaranteed contract. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell any agent would negotiate a buyout for less than face value.

Exactly!
They aren't doing themselves any favors since his replacement isn't doing any better than A-Rod. They are going to have to do something with him now after they've humiliated him the entire playoffs. I've never been a fan of his, but this is blatant and a bit much.
He's not the only one stinking up the place in these playoffs.

Uh....no, it is not. The Yankees still have, what, five years left to pay A Rod?

I think they should do something with the whole lot..... Maybe just forfeit to Detroit. After all, if you pay attention, you would notice that the Yankees players act like they have something they'd rather be doing than playing baseball.... I've been a Yankee fan all my life and I have never been as disgusted with them as I am now!!!

BTW, A-Rod is not the only one stinking up the place, but he is the ONLY one making 28M a year while stinking up the place....... Besides, has anyone noticed that he has more than a third of all the strikeouts registered by his team?

A-Rod strikes out a lot. He is 4th on the all time list for strikeouts. Are the Yankees just now noticing that? In the mean time Chavez is 0 for 14 in the playoffs with 6 strikeouts.
This is ugly. The more they humiliate him the more they have to move him and the more of that contract they are going to have to eat in the process. They may as well release him and keep sending him his checks while he plays for another team.

A-Rod is not going to back out of that deal whether he's worthy of it anymore or not. That's not his problem that's the Yankees' problem. You're right no agent is going to negotiate a buyout for less than face value. We're stuck with him and it's long past time to learn a painfull lesson.

They owe him $114 million; next year he will earn $29 million.

I'm getting tired of Girardi trying to outhink the room. A-Rod has historically hit Verlander very well yet Girardi once again let him languish on the bench.

100% correct.
Nevertheless, the Yanks have the wherewithal to wriggle around the A-Rod dilemma and still field a competitive team (dare I say, AL-East champ) every year.

Funny... Everyone in the US, except A-Rod, seems worried about this.

The date on this is 10-15... is that right? ARod TnRs can now time travel?

That's a good question. I just tried looking up A-Rod stats vs. Verlander to see if I could find any info regarding recent trends. I couldn't find anything.
