Pats' D gaining poor reputation

Heeheehee.

Thought they addressed the defense in the last draft.... Guess not.

The Patriots' defense has been suspect for a few years. They let a lot of veterans go and tried to replace them with bargain-basement players. It didn't work. This year they addressed the defense in the draft, but these players are young and need time to develop. How quickly that happens will determine how competitive the Pats can be, especially regarding the playoffs.

The Pats D made a rookie QB look like an All Pro yesterday. The Seahawks D forced an All Pro QB into making rookie like mistakes.

Not with me. They've had a poor reputation for years.

What's getting me now is the poor play-calling when we've got the ball. Look, Bill, keep doing what's working. You can't go into a shell at the end of the 3rd quarter, just run the ball, get a couple of first downs and punt. You can't rely on this defense to stop anybody.

The Patriots need to keep the hammer down and run up the score. Up 13 in the 4th quarter isn't enough. Stick with the no-huddle, pass-first offense. Put some nails in the coffin for once.

Guess that whole "Spygate" thing put a pretty good dent in Belichick's defensive prowess.....

The Team has consintrated on Offense, this is what happens when you prepare to score more, they have to spend more time on Prepping their Defense. Seattle is a tough place to win a game!

This is true, but damn the Hawks tried to give the game to the Pats. Seattle took too many penalties.

On the other hand, they go after him for intentional grounding. The first one, at the end of the first half, should not have been called. He was not throwing the ball away to avoid the rush, as he had already escaped. Throwing the ball to avoid the rush is one of the requirements for an intentional grounding call. Throwing it away to stop the clock, which is what he did, is not in itself a penalty.

Tough start for a team the media was saying could go 16-0 this season.

Pats worked hard to give the Hawks the game, too. Picks, drops, balls in the dirt. And the play calling?

Face it. The Pats were just better at giving the game away than the Seahawks were.

The whole 'in or out of the pocket' thing is BS...Intentional grounding is just that, no matter where the QB is. The only time it should be allowed is immediately after the snap to stop the clock...and it wouldn't bother me a great deal if that were penalized as well.

DD, good point. The Pats passing game was working pretty good, they should have continue to use it.

If I remember that play correctly, Brady wasn't out of the pocket (the hash marks) and there wasn't a receiver in the area.

That last TD pass of Wilson's was a good an illustration of the Pats' defensive shortcomings as one could ask for.
The receiver blew by his defender (a rookie) with a head fake to the corner post that also faked the safety who gave up on him too soon.
They played the replay twice and each time I was screaming "don't let him get deep" until my wife came into the room to see if I was ok.

Pats haven't had a strong defense in four years. Bill has to answer for not pulling it together for that long.
