Three Cavs on the bubble

08:10 AM ET 10.15 | Halfway through the preseason, Cleveland, by releasing Kelenna Azubuike on Sunday, is closer to an opening night roster. Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters, Daniel Gibson, C.J. Miles, Alonzo Gee, Omri Casspi, Tristan Thompson, Samardo Samuels, Jon Leuer, Anderson Varejao, Tyler Zeller and Luke Walton appear locks to make the team. ... There's always a possibility the Cavs eat the $6 million and release Walton, but that seems unlikely. That leaves the trio of Kevin Jones, Michael Eric and Luke Harangody to fight for one or, perhaps, two roster spots, depending on how many point guards the Cavs elect to keep. Coach Byron Scott has maintained he would like to carry three point guards if possible, but he conceded that is by no means a guarantee.

The Cavs need to better evaluate their talent. Thompson and Waiters are not what you should get as early 1st round choices. I would cut Gibson, even though I like him. He is not that quick to handle the ball or to defend other guards. I thought Harangody passed better, and helps with the rebounding, as the forwards will need help. He can shoot it, but not quite to the level that is needed. But then, I didn't see any guards on the team who can shoot the 3 with a high level of success.

It's always a crap shoot in the draft. Plus it takes time for some of these guys to develop. Be patient they will turn out OK. You have a good coach to develop them.

Thanks! Yes, I know that patience is required. And I certainly do not have the skill of an NBA talent scount. I had a chance to watch them up close last week. Thompson and Zellar athletically could not match Milwaukee's forwards with either their footwork, jumping, or anticipation of the action. They were out hustled and beaten to every ball. You can develop skills, but not athetic ability. Waiters was athletically very good and could easily stay with the guards. He did not have any good court sense in knowing where his players were, or where the defense was. He was not able to run plays. He was lucky when his shot hit the rim, when he took three pointers. Hopefully his shooting skill can improve, but I am not sure his mentality is enough to make good decisions and have great court awareness.

This certainly is a one game impression and as I mentioned I am not a talent scout. Still, it is fun to do one's own analysis, which I shared. I will enjoy watching how they develop and progress this season.

I normally dont talk about the Cavs cause I am a Knicks fan. Yes I live here and go to the Cavs game etc. Sugar, Go Browns, LTCF etc are better talking about the Cavs than I am. I would say this though.. I think they are a piece or 2 to become a playoff team. Im not sold on Waiters yet...
