Would Showalter leave for GM job?

08:13 AM ET 10.15 | Other than Earl Weaver, Buck Showalter has very likely become Baltimore's favorite manager. Showalter always talks as if he knows that he has a short shelf life. He'll make references to something that's due to happen in the next few years and act as though he won't be around to see it. But it's hard to imagine Showalter wearing out his welcome anytime soon in Baltimore. Maybe the same words were typed in Arizona and Texas, but he's the face of this franchise. He's the miracle worker without Patty Duke. On paper, this team never had a chance. ... What could sway Showalter in another direction and lead him to pass on an extension? A burning desire, and an offer, to become a general manager.

Showalter has tasted success in Baltimore and he can write his own ticket for the next few years there if he decides to stay.

We shall see. The good thing is that he is not dealing with a lot of divas. O's just a bunch of young players and will do anything for a W without complaining even if getting demoted in the batting line up or getting scratched from the starters position and pitch a relievers.

Buck wants a ring as a Manager, not a GM. I think with Hamilton in left next year, he could get it.

wise up: Some columnists must of needed something to write to meet his deadline. Write a story that has some merit. Probably the same one that had the Reds running dusty out of Cincinnati. The Reds signed Baker to two year extension. Likewise Showalter will return to manage the O's next year and beyond

He can do no wrong right now but you can bet the expectations for 2013 are quite a bit higher than they were for this season. Fans are fickle...and impatient.

I think he wants to keep the Team Squeaky Clean with no Player Issues, a Guy like Ichero with a 1 Year deal could help lead this young team to a Championship for years to come simply by watching this guy play every day! Buck's not going anywhere Angelos will give him an open check book, he proved his value and loyalty!

Exactly. Not a truth and not even a rumor. Does someone actually get paid to just spew this stuff ? If so then I got a whole lot of bs to dish out. And I won't mind picking up a paycheck for it either.
