08:14 AM ET 10.15 | This bit of speculation wound up too good to be true from a storyline standpoint. The Red Sox can cross one ain't-gonna-happen name off their managerial search list: Joe Torre. The former Yankees skipper held court with reporters before the Detroit Tigers beat New York, 3-0, in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series [Sunday], and contrary to a report stating he wanted to get back into the game and could end up a candidate in Boston, Torre said he has no plans to manage. "I don't know where that came from," Torre said. "Certainly not my camp." The 72-year-old works in the commissioner's office and hasn't managed since 2010, when he led the Dodgers to an 80-82 record before handing the reins to lieutenant Don Mattingly.

Torree has it made in the commish's office. Nobody criticizes why he played certain players or managed game strategy. He's still close to the game and involved in it.

I'm sure his name didn't come from the Red Sox camp either. Joe seems quite happy doing what he's doing.

Is Yaz too old. Give him a whirl, with all the triple crown stories he'd fit right in.

We're hoping they do. We've got our ace on the mound tomorrow night... we've got as good of a chance as any to really tilt the table in our favor.
