08:46 AM ET 10.15 | Being drafted behind Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin, Cam Barker was almost destined to wear the label of underachiever. Barker is 26 years old, hardly doddering, but he has been with the Blackhawks' organization, Minnesota, Edmonton and now with Dallas. Unless he reinvents himself with the Texas Stars -- gets quicker feet, provides more offensive pop, uses his frame (6'3", 215 pounds) more aggressively -- his North American career may be on life support. Barker is a cautionary tale for all scouts. ... The other [No. 3s] in the last while include Jonathan Toews, Jack Johnson, Nathan Horton and Matt Duchene. Barker has made more than $10 million since his draft year, but now he's on a tryout. That's a major fall from grace.

He hasn't come even close statistically to living up to his lofty draft status.
