08:12 AM ET 10.16 | Jim Leyland's handling of an otherwise uncomfortable Jose Valverde situation offers a glimpse into the manager's approach. It was just one moment in one press conference before one postseason game, of which [Leyland] has managed many. But it elegantly captured why the Red Sox should delay any decision in their managerial search until Detroit's season ends. Because if there's any chance of Leyland being available -- and he's finishing out his contract, so why not? -- the Red Sox would be crazy not to make a serious run at him. ... "You have every right to ask them. I don't blame you. So I am trying to handle this the best we can." That is what's known as a clinic, and it's exactly what the Red Sox are looking for.

Better be careful... they may miss out on getting Jason Giambi.

If the Boston Herald thinks it's a good idea, ignore it.

Why would Leyland go from a World Series contender to the circus act known as the Red Sox? Eff off Boston, next bandwagon boarding in another 100 years. The Curse of Francona.

Nope. I stayed dry. Took the dog out just before the rains came.

Absolutely. Illitch has opened his wallet to make this team what it is. He's not going to short change the man in the driver's seat.

The Boston Herald writers need to stop drinking so early in the morning.
