Bench in struggling Swisher's near future

08:13 AM ET 10.16 | Nick Swisher may wind up with a case of the Verlander flu. No singular lineup move is going to miraculously cure what ails the Yankee offense these days. But Joe Girardi has to keep trying to find something that works, and for Game 3 the move that makes the most sense is benching [Swisher]. Bad enough that he's having his fourth straight unproductive postseason as a Yankee, but now Swisher seems to be of a fragile state of mind as well, after complaining about how poorly he was treated by Yankee Stadium fans over the weekend. So if I'm Girardi, I'm sitting Swisher against Justin Verlander. He's struck out 20 times against the Tigers' ace in 55 career at-bats anyway, while hitting .200 against him.

I believe Swisher just sealed his own fate as far as his Yankee career is concerned......Now he'll go back to being a mediocre nobody on some other team who's gonna overpay for him...and they'll boo the crap out of him there also...

You got it. Too late now. Could have cleaned out his locker Sunday night. He still thinks he is " Werth " money on the open market. He will end up in San Fran with the Giants.

Granderson is actually a very classy citizen-athlete. Yeah, he's getting paid, but he's done a lot for communities and to help spread the good will of baseball around the world. He's nowhere near as selfish as the two aforementioned characters.

I would love to agree with you, but the Truth is they have been Over Matched, don't take away how good both The Oriole and Tiger Pitchers have been! Especially with men on base!

At the end of the regular season Swisher was talking about a 100 million dollar contract being a free agent soon, but it looks like now that want happen.

Indeed. Granderson is a first class guy. He did all sorts of stuff for the community in Detroit and I assume he's doing things in New York as well.

You know Sarge, he's playing so bad that nobody's going to want him and he just might wind up in Citi Field, they just might be able to afford him!

The Yanks can't bench the whole lineup tonight. Someone has to face Verlander.

True. It's looking more and more like the Tigers got the better end of that deal. Basically Grandy and EJax for Scherzer, AJax and Coke.

Swisher has benefited greatly from being in a lineup where's he surrounded by hitter the other teams fear. He's the guy they pitch to.

AJax really jumped his game up offensively this year.

Money ball...he's too old..we don't want him....Mets are going with youth.....2 contracts left to peel off Bay and Santana....after that...we'll probably be going with a 60-80 million $ payroll every year.....Mets learned their lesson with big money free agents....you don't need them to win...see Oakland.. Tampa....
