08:18 AM ET 10.16 | Despite a thin resume as a manager, baseball veteran Jason Giambi is getting his shot. [Giambi] will interview for the Rockies vacant managerial job, though no date has been set. He will be the last in-house candidate before the Rockies talk to other candidates. There is no timetable for a hiring. Assistant general manager Bill Geivett said Monday that the Rockies will look outside the organization, but "we haven't begun narrowing that list at this point." ... No interview is planned for Vinny Castilla at this point. Castilla, one of the most accomplished players in team history, is a special assistant to general manager Dan O'Dowd and served as Mexico's manager in the World Baseball Classic.

if you are hiring from within maybe you need to talk to all time favorite Larry Walker about the job, but it doesn't really matter who you hire since you are so far away from catching LA and SF.

in fairness to giambi, he admitted to his PED use. you know, a heck of a lot of these guys did it, perhaps even most of them. it's the guys who lie about it when they get caught that really bother me. the pettites and giambis who are men about it and admit their mistakes....i can respect them.

vinny castilla should throw some words in for himself, perhaps he could get a good job done as a manager who knows??

Giambi could try his best after all he has nothing to lose,,,

Ted Williams and Rogers Hornsby were great players, but not much as coaches. Bruce Bocy and Mike Metheny were mediocre players (to be nice), and are darn fine coaches. So Giambi over Castilla makes some sense, but I would go for someone with a smaller ego, and a larger brain than Giambi. And less baggage.

wiseup: Bobby Valentine is available and he has a lot more experience. So is Manny Acta. How appropriate to hire two losers, since the rockies will probably have another losing season.
