08:21 AM ET 10.16 | It didn't take long for Urban Meyer to make good on his promise to get more involved in the Ohio State defense, a side of the ball under clear scrutiny after Saturday's 52-49 win over Indiana. Senior defensive lineman John Simon said the Sunday meeting was already more urgent, with the defenders knowing they had a lot to correct. But this was Meyer's first visit to a Sunday defensive meeting all season. The coach said he didn't throw any Gatorade bottles against the wall, that it wasn't the time for that. But this was serious. "It was just shocking," senior cornerback Travis Howard said. ... "I'm not happy at all with what's going on on defense," Meyer said Monday. "That includes players, coaches, and I think we can all get better."

I was embarrassed watching the defense Sat nite. Those two personal fouls on the same play (a 30 yard mark off) was unprecedented and idiotic. I like Fickel, been a fan since he was a 3-time HS heavyweight wrestler at Columbus DeSales. He was a 4 year starter at nose guard for the Buckeyes yet never distinguished himself. After watching last year's team and the defense this year, I doubt he will be around long. The problem looks schematic to me or the players have become ignorant and are not in the right place. The D line is not getting a consistent pass rush and the LB's are hurt by injuries. Meyer has left the D in the hands of the coaches, but not now. I think Vrabel is more of Meyer's kind of coach.
