01:17 PM ET 10.16 | After a Columbus sports talk radio host tweeted that College GameDay's Desmond Howard (a Michigan man) should "get fired or die," former Buckeyes quarterback Kirk Herbstreit responded with a very strongly worded defense of his colleague:

And, there is one thing before we go to another break that I struggled to bring up but I feel like I owe it to somebody to bring up, who's just a friend of mine, and I don't mean to pull you into this Anthony, but I'm going to just address this publicly because I think what Desmond Howard had to deal with over the weekend is disgusting and very sad. To think that because, I don't know what, I don't know the reason behind it, but the tweet from an individual that works at the radio station was above and beyond I think what was acceptable, and is another example with Twitter of how things can be said, and things can be, "Oh I was just kidding, I was just laughing."

Isn't it about time for Herbie to just go away? He's been shunned by Buckeye Nation and how many times do I have to hear the same old crap out of him. This team wants to "send a message" or that team is "on a mission" blah blah blah. It is time for some new blood sitting next to the clown (Lee Corso) on Gameday.

I applaud Kirk for standing up and calling out a media clown that was tweeting some seriously stoopidschittx. For a "supposedly professional" talk radio host to do that is just plain wrong. You can disagree with someone without that kind of garbage.

You have to look sadly on the mental state of the individual who posted the tweet. This guy has some issues below the surface.

Buckeye Nation shunned him because he is not a biased homer. Y'all chased him out of C-bus.

ESPN needs to get rid of a lot of idiots before they get to Herbie.

Kirk's a wimp and needs a good smack to the mouth. Pretty boy Kirk plays for his ratings. No wonder they ran Herb out of Columbus for good. Too soft in the crotch.

Kirk was run out by fans like the radio D bag who threatend him and his family because even though he is a Buckeye, his job requires him to tell the truth about a team even if it means prasing Michigan or calling out Ohio State. The rabid fan base thinks he should just be spouting how great Ohio State is and to never say good things about "that team up north".

What's wrong with what the DJ tweeted? How many followers does he even have? Who cares about anybody in radio? And finally, there was no threat and the DJ is a powerless shmuck. "Get fired or die"-- that's just an opinion, and a crude way of making a point. But really, what's the big deal?
