WVU: Academic records secure

An investigation into missing files from former coach Rich Rodriguez's office has revealed that the academic records of Mountaineer football players are secure. Still a mystery, though, is the scope and importance of missing files, whether the school had backup files and whether the files have any bearing on a federal lawsuit that WVU filed against Rodriguez after he left for Michigan.

Is Coach Rod gonna suit up for the hockey team too?

January 17, 2008  09:49 AM ET

Coiff: I agree. This whole thing is pretty unbelievable. On the other hand, when WVU started launching flaming arrows at Rod, and "fans" started making death threats, I'm sure it got pretty personal for both sides.

A caller into one of the Detroit-area sports talk stations, who claimed to be a "WVU fan", offered up this preposterous rumor: apparently, WVU launched an investigation the day after the Pitt loss into whether or not Coach Rod "threw the game" because he was "afraid" of playing Ohio State in the BCS championship! Wow ... That's out there!

So, in addition to everything else, Coach Rod is also clairvoyant, since he would have had to know that all of the teams standing in OSU's way would lose their games, the BCS formula would move OSU into the championship, etc, etc, etc. Maybe Coach Rod can tell me which stocks to pick? The over-under in the Super Bowl? Point spread in the NCAA Men's Basketball championship?

He would only have been scared of playing in the National Title game. Les Miles didn't get the job b/c he pulled his name out due to the SEC and National titles on the line. I can imagine RodRig wouldn't have been able to interview for the UM job and go after the title at the same time.

Can I see? I mean just to have proof that they cash is in there.

January 17, 2008  11:56 AM ET

My kingdom for a silverado!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 17, 2008  12:26 PM ET

Don't worry, Rod covered all bases in leaving WVA. He knew long before the Pitt game that he was going and Michigan wanted him NOW, so if he had won the Pitt game, it would have put him into a real problem, but if he lost the Pitt game, he would have another solid excuse to leave NOW, so you can only guess why and how they lost that game. With all of the alligations against Ol' Rod, we can only hope that the NCAA finds it all and buries him and Michigan. My next hope is that we meet Michigan in 2008, then we can officially say GOODBYE ROD!!!!!!!!!!!!

"West Virginia" and "academic" don't belong in the same sentence.

Ohhhh Captain!!!! Have a Banana Republican

January 17, 2008  03:13 PM ET

He's Michigan's problem now.

January 17, 2008  04:47 PM ET

WVU should be ashamed of themselves and apologize for insinuating that Rodriguez was responsible for the missing files. And they continue to investigate wether he used their cell phone to call Michigan recruits while employed at WVU. Who cares? It was the day before his friggin' last day there! And what's with the looney fans making death threats to his family? I don't understand how ??"West Virginia"?? fans could be so fanatic??? It's not like they've won any national titles or anything.

January 17, 2008  04:50 PM ET

I am sure he was one hell of a problem when he went to 3 BCS games...

January 17, 2008  06:26 PM ET

Jerry, you and the other WVU fans have collectively lost your minds. NO COACH is going to sacrifice an appearance in the National Championship, regardless of which team and coach he opposes, or which job openings are available! This does not happen on Planet Earth.

Let's review that Pitt game ...
- What slows down a speed-option offense? Oh, yeah, rain. Let's see what the weather was like in Morgantown that night ... Heavy down pours! (Just a rumor, though, that a guy with a long white beard was seen hearding pairs of animals into a big, wooden boat).
- What does a speed-option offense need most of all? (Pause for effect) Answer: a QB like Pat White! Where was Pat White during the game? (More pause) On the sidelines with an injury!

I mean, c'mon fellas, get over it already. Your new/old coach won the Sugar Bowl by thumping on Oklahoma. Be happy, and move on with your lives.

I love how all the Mich comments make factual valid points and WVU comments tend to fall into the emotionally opinionated catergory

January 17, 2008  08:51 PM ET

Just an aside here, I love "Coiff's" (or is it now "Connie Lingus"?) profile ... Check out the "Games" section. It reads:

"Turn your head and coiff isn't playing any games."

Precisely.

hmmm. such hate for the state of West Virginia. I always knew the nation was jealous of us but now you put it into words. Only such hateful statements can be derived from jealousy.

January 17, 2008  09:42 PM ET

Not sure what there is to be jealous of really? Your 4 Conference titles in 30 years? Or maybe your three NFL players since 1985. No wait it must be the 25,000 person football stadium you have. Or the 3 sweet 16's you have been to, ever.
