Chiefs positioned for QB controversy

08:04 AM ET 10.17 | Matt Cassel is back, which is barely half of the story. [Cassel] received medical clearance Tuesday to resume non-contact drills, which effectively positions the Chiefs for a quarterback controversy as they enter the bye week in their schedule. Brady Quinn started for an injured Cassel in Sunday's 38-10 loss at Tampa Bay. "What I told them is I'm rotating the quarterbacks," Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel said prior to Tuesday's practice. "They will get equal reps. (Ricky) Stanzi will be one who won't get as many reps." Cassel suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs' Oct. 7 loss to Baltimore. While he is only currently cleared for non-contact duty, he should be ready for the Chiefs' next game, Oct. 28 against the Raiders.

You have to have actual QB's on your team in order to have a controversy. Joe Montana and Steve Young were a QB controversy. Watching these two guys shoot themselves (and the team) in the foot during a game is just sad.

At this point they might as well go with Quinn. They had a couple years to see that Cassel is not the man to lead this team.

Honestly tank the season and get a real QB... there are a few whom I'm sure are alot better then what they have on their roster right now... But then again I'm sure they'll find a way to screw this up as well

Quinn's had a whole career to prove he's not the guy to lead any team.
They should let Stanzi play. Build him up as trade material to some team that needs a clipboard holder but doesn't want to pay Cassel's salary for that job.

To be fair though, there were several teams who thought the same...KC just won the Cassel "sweepstakes" which turned out to be more like snake eyes!
Lesson here: There is a reason why most of these guys are backups...guys like Matt Schaub and Steve Young are the exception to the rule

There is some truth to this but the browns team he was on was a joke and still is a joke to this day. The broncos had no plans to play him either. They should rotate qb's if necessary but it should be between Quinn and Stanzi because Cassel is terrible. Drafting a QB next year is a must for the Chiefs
