Edmonton arena hostility rising again

08:23 AM ET 10.17 | So much for a thaw in Edmonton arena relations. In an angry letter addressed to Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel, Daryl Katz, the chairman of the Katz Group, says neither he nor anyone from the Katz Group will appear before city council on Wednesday to discuss the stalled negotiations over the proposed new downtown arena. "I fear the City has approached this negotiation based on narrow political considerations rather than a genuine desire to strike a deal that is fair and makes economic sense for both sides," reads the letter, which is dated Oct. 16, 2012. Last month, Mandel had given the Katz Group a deadline of Oct. 17 to come before council, in an open session, to discuss the outstanding details of the arena deal.

He should get zero dollars for building an arena. He runs a profitable NHL franchise. He's a billionaire. He can build his own damn barn. No owner on earth is going to vote to leave Edmonton at this juncture.

It's starting to get cold in Edmonton so anything "rising" is a surprise.

I'd love to meet some snow that has been around for a Leafs Cup parade.

an interesting possibility is developing there. Edmonton could use its MSI Capital Provincial funds and borrow to build an arena without greedy guts Katz. Its pretty obvious based on Phoenix that a Team in the Oilers market is never gonna be allowed to relocate. In the 2-3 years it takes the City to build a new rink Rexall will deteriorate further. Katz will be stuck facing the reality of being a tenant instead of a co-owner.

Ed Snider did. He built the <Insert current bank name here> Center with minimal fiscal input from Philly. The city took down JFK stadium and allowed Snider to build the new arena on that site and I think that was the extent of the assistance. There may have been some other minor assistance, but Snider basically did it on his own. He set an excellent example for other owners to follow.

Even in Seattle where there is no team Larsen is on the hook for the money that the City County and state are loaning him to build the arena there
So lets do some odds on who's going to Seattle
(the deal is contingent on the fact they get both a NBA and NHL franchise)

Phoenix 4 to 1 Glendale has to eventually say no to giving 15 mil a year to the Coyotes owners
Florida 7 to 1
with this franchise on I believe their 4th or 5th ownership hard to see them in South beach long group
Carolina 10 to 1 not heard of much as a money loser thanks to the deep pockets of Karmanos but it is no secret he has been trying to get an investor for many years if the money he spent this year doesn't translate into butts in the seats Software city makes good sense for a software owned team
Dallas 12 to 1 with Gaglardi from Vancouver the new owner it is possible although I'm sure the league wouldn't like that move as they until Hicks ran them into the ground drew top 5 attendance
Field 20 to 1 Tampa Columbus and New Jersey can't be discounted but I believe it's doubtful that any of them end up there

Field means pretty well everyone else at least that's what i thought it meant but yes the Isles should have gotten field notice as they are one of the more possible moving teams
