Are the Titans better with Matt Hasselbeck starting?

03:43 PM ET 10.17 | Yes, I know that Jake Locker is the starting QB and will be starting again once he's healthy, but are Titans a better team with Matt Hasselbeck starting at QB? Let's look at a few things. With Jake Locker starting, the offense averages 311 yards and 5.73 yards a play. Now with Hasselbeck the Titans average 335 yards and 5.27 yards a play. So you can see that they average more for the whole game just not as much per play. Some of that has to do with Locker averaging 7.37 yards a pass to Hasselbeck's 5.90. Locker has a bigger arm and looks to throw it downfield more often than Hasselbeck does. Advantage- Hasselbeck for total yards. Advantage- Locker for higher yards per completion.

Hasselbeck is no doubt better in the short term. But, if they don't let Locker play when he's healthy, he'll never develop into the franchise qb he could be. So take your choice, Tennessee: win a little now with Hasselbeck; or sacrifice slightly in the short term to win a lot in the long term with Locker.

He played well Monday Night, I would keep playing him!

if a running threat is not established, either QB could limp Titans to 8-8 season............

If it's up to CJ, I doubt the running game will get going... Odd how he just doesn't hit the seems the way he used to. Runs that were 80+ yard TD's a few years ago, are 15 yard gains at best, with the same amount of space.

tired of watching CJ hesitate....here in Music City, talk is that he has let his head take over his athletic ability.....agree, getting same holes but just shutting down after 5 yards....he will be on chopping block after this year if it doesn't improve...Titans front office will not pony up the $9 mil he is due next year.....shame....

He's only averaging about 60 yards a game. It doesn't sound like there are even many 15 yard runs.

*at best

I think that's his longest run of the season.

The team is 2-4. There is more to worry about than small statistical differences in QB performance.

Hasselbeck is 37. He could last a few more years as a backup, but not as a starter.

Hasselbeck is always good for a game or two after he returns from a long sit on the bench. Problem is that it never lasts long, and he's back to being mediocre by his third start. The Titans aren't going anywhere this year, so they might as well play for the long-term.

Let's ask the epicenter of the brain-trust of the View, Mrs. Hasselbeck.

My mistake, she married the bald no-longer-playing Hasselbeck.

I'd still like Elizabeth's *considered* opinion though ... on anything.

Yes. When Hasselbeck is healthy he plays well, but if he has to play every game he doesn't stay healthy for very long. Letting Locker sit last year and watch Hasselbeck probably helped him develop, but 1 year of that is plenty; it is time for the kid to start and practice what he learned under fire.
