Bulls ready to amnesty Boozer

08:08 AM ET 10.18 | During his time in Chicago, Taj Gibson has proven himself to be among the most valuable of all the Bulls not named Derrick Rose. Which is why many rival teams expect the Bulls to have Gibson signed to a new deal by month's end, even though Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf is seemingly never in a rush to do extensions. The high dollars and luxury-tax implications are such in James Harden's case that it wouldn't totally shock the world if the parties reach November without a deal ... but no deal in Gibson's case would expose the Bulls to the same conditions that made it possible for Houston to pilfer Omer Asik in restricted free agency this past July. ... Extending Gibson now and cutting ties with Carlos Boozer later via the amnesty clause, sources say, is still the most likely outcome here.

Well Boozer I believe some team will pick you up to come off the bench for them. Good Luck with that.

he will probaby got to Dallas because they need more big men there, they only have Brand Dirk and Kaman LOL

Boozer is ok but you don't pay non a non-all star/non revenue generator 15+ mill/year. They are two years away from competing for the eastern conference. Taj Gibson is a better defender and will come much cheaper. Taj also can play the 3 and the 4. Bulls are in need a sure SG to compliment Rose long term.

you're right. he's not a bad player but he doesnt deserve the contract that's given to him. He'd be great @ 8 million cheaper and his role cut down to say 25 minutes... Should they Amnesty him, probably....

How did it come to this... I thought he was a bonafide perenial all star... being a Knick fan it sucks not having some real competetion in Chitown...

finally Paxon seems to get it.
I have been saying this for 2 years now.
Now then as Gibson will be signed long term the bulls still need an all star caliber 2 guard next to Rose.
And NO Bellinelli ain't it and Rip Hamilton needs to go!
Hamilton needs to be waived!
Next season James Harden,Ginobli,Kevin Martin,Dorell Wright,Ben Gordon,Nick Young will all be free agents & are all capable back court team mates to join Rose.
Ginobli likely will resign with the spurs, Dorell Wright & Kevin Martin seem to be the more realistic options. If they can woo Harden sure that makes sense also. Young is like J R Smith; hot one day, cold the next, Ben Gordon to return to Chi Town?
Seems unlikely.... he is suppose to make 13 mil next season if he exercises that player option, with a deal from the bulls probably looking at 10 mil for 3 years or something of that sort.
Too much for a guy with no handles and just can shoot and dunk.
Now Dorell Wright whom can play 4 positions would come much cheaper, can make the bulls lineup a big lineup at 6'9 he can handle the rock, shoot, pass, steal, block and rebound.

There's no real competition in Manhattan either.

oh haters... Knicks are playoff material - Bulls can't say that with certainty. Unless you drink redbull delusional flavor!

I agree, I would take Boozer on the Sixers at the amnesty rate and he would start. The players I had on my personal amnesty list last year were Boozer, and Brand. Chicago can possibly make a 7-8 playoff seed even without Boozer

Boozer could be a great pickup for teams mid-season if he is ac'd. Dallas, San Antonio, Pacers, to name a few. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Or Orlando for that matter... :-)

I won't disagree at all. But I'm not one of the fans who are yelling and screaming about how awesome my team is. And to say that NYK are better than the Bulls right now is simply laughable at best.

I get the boozer hate, kind of like the arod bashing, but seriously speaking.....why amnesty him now?Its not like they are trying to bring in another player and need the spot/cap and without rose, they are going to struggle to score and likely won't be competing this year for a ringSo why amnesty him, still pay him and then he can go to a contender?Makes no sense

The only logical reason is to free up the spot for Taj and slightly tank for a better draft pick short term, especially if they don't make the playoffs. Boozer is signed through 2014-15, they don't want to be paying him that kind of money for 3yrs. 15, 15.3, 16.8Mil per year when Taj most likely will be taking most of his minutes at that point. I would prefer the amnesty choice. There is a chance to struggle for one year get a better draft slot come back next year with a better team
