08:14 AM ET 10.18 | If Adam LaRoche, who has a mutual option in Washington, is to return, it may take at least a two-year offer to make it happen. Not only was LaRoche the team's most consistent run producer, he was a Gold Glove-caliber first baseman. If LaRoche doesn't come back, it would not come as a surprise if Ryan Zimmerman, Michael Morse or Tyler Moore plays the position. ... If LaRoche signs with another team, Morse is most likely the guy at first base. However, a baseball source left open the possibility that Morse could be traded, meaning the Nationals would let Moore try to win the job in left field. Both Moore and Morse are not outfielders by trade and are better suited at first base. The source also said that opposing teams have expressed interest in Moore.

If you are the Nats you sign LaRoche because you need veteran leadership on a young and upcoming good ball team.

funny you should say that. the organ player at turner field always plays the theme to the mary tyler moore show when this kid comes up to bat.

You want to get rid of Reynolds after he hit like 10 HRs against the Yanks?

Yup, because he is due $12 mil. No way I would pay a 1st baseman who only has .221 BA and 20 homeruns. Yes, when he is hot, he is streaky but when is cold....he is ice cold. He stays cold for weeks.

Yes, they will replace him with Mary Tyler Moore, tool.

I would be shocked if they moved Zimmerman to first. Good defensive 3rd baseman who can also hit are really hard to come be. LaRoche shouldn't be too hard to re-sign to a reasonable contract with Morse (30) and Moore (25) both younger than he is and able to hit. If he doesn't accept a reasonable offer, though, they should let him go. The team is in a fairly strong position here.

QUOTE(#2):

Paying a guy a ton of money after he has the best season of his career at age 32 is not wise. He's going to want to cash in on his 33HRs and probably won't hit that many again...I think the Nats are too savvy to shell out for this guy, especially when they have youngsters looking for places to play. Certainly might hurt their offense next season, though.

Nats ... savvy .... too funny :) (see werth contract)

I don't want to go out on a limb but I think THAT is why he said it

With bated breath... we await a decision.

Rubbish. Pay the man. 1B's can play well into their 30s and the impact this guy and Werth had on the development of Harper cannot be overestimated. Trade Morse if you must, not Moore.
