08:18 AM ET 10.18 | While the Big East has re-upped with Madison Square Garden, the Atlantic Coast Conference may be open to a move. The ACC is open to moving its conference tournament out of the state of North Carolina. ACC commissioner John Swofford told ESPN.com that the reason the ACC and Madison Square Garden didn't get a deal was that MSG wanted a regular tenant every March and the ACC wasn't willing to commit to a set location. ... Swofford said he was open to taking the tournament to Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. He also discussed how successful the tournament has been at other locations such as Washington, D.C. Boston College coach Steve Donahue said he would love for the tournament to move to the Northeast at some point, even for one season.

"...the reason the ACC and Madison Square Garden didn't get a deal was that MSG wanted a regular tenant every March and the ACC wasn't willing to commit to a set location."

More likely was the case that the Big East has right of first refusal on the dates -- they've blocked MSG in for a week for three decades now, and the only way the ACC could get in MSG is to move the ACC tournament back a week like the second-tier conferences do, and that won't happen.

Also remember that even though the league has expanded, the Carolina-based schools still run everything.

The ACC Tournament was in Atlanta in 2001 and it was great! It hasn't always been in NC

they should have it in Jerry's World!

And have it before the season......that way they know who will already have the ACC's spot in the dance.

As a child of Tobacco Road the thought of the ACC Tournament in NEW YORK CITY is just flat-out insane.

But this is just further proof that conferences mean nothing these days. The classic ACC that I knew as kid is long gone. Conferences might as well be called "Conference A," "Conference B," etc.

It should always be in Greensboro. End of story.

I agree. Also, the ACC's home offices are in Greensboro as well. If they need a larger venue, then I'm sure the money could get ponied up to either expand the current coliseum or build a new, larger venue.

STUPID STUPID....keep the game in North Carolina....Charlotte would be good....Then you get NC STATE, UNC, DUKE, Wake Forests all having fans travel...Virginia and V-Tech are close...Clemson is close..G-Tech and FSU are decent and close......Keep it in the central AREA...make it easy on fans...I know Miami fans dont care about basketball but they are not going to come up to Brooklyn

Agree.....Missouri in the SEC EAST...WTF?!?!?!?! Colorado in the PAC-12....this does not make sense....
I hope the ACC realigns their divisions...make it a true north vs south....they put FSU and Miami is seperate divisions thinking it would be good and programs would meet twice a year during season and title game...not happening......make some sense

Yes, Greensboro sucks, but the ACC tournament belongs here. Forever.

Move it to Pittsburgh. We have a brand new arena and a casino and we desperately need the money.
