08:21 AM ET 10.18 | Thomas Tyner has made things interesting in the Pacific Northwest. Tyner decommitted from the University of Oregon on Tuesday. The kid with 2,328 rushing yards in seven games this season is working to schedule visits with both the Bruins and the Beavers. A source close to the situation said the running back contacted Oregon State on Wednesday morning, and planned to schedule a visit with the Beavers later Wednesday night. Also, Oregon State will dispatch an assistant -- my bet is offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh -- to the Aloha-Jesuit football game Friday night for a first-hand look. ... [The] competition to land the most coveted high school running back in the region has now pitted in-state rival programs against each other.

That would be a shame. I think the kid could benefit from playing with OSU as Riley has shown a penchant in the past of featuring backs and potentially getting them to the NFL (Jackson, Rogers), whereas at Oregon even a kid like this could get lost* in the shuffle of other great players (see Barner v. Thomas for an example).
*Both are noticed, but how well would they do if they were featured rather than splitting time and carries?

You know, I'm not a Beavers' fan, but I am rooting for them to crush the Ducks into unpalatable pate. Stupid uniforms and video-game football: Mr Big Bucks giving them everything their widdle hearts want. Wretched. Go, Beavers.

I wonder if Tyner is viewing that way... Hopefully for the Beavers' sake he's considering that he could get a feature back type of role, and turn out to be the next Jackson... Regardless of how this works out, without the good start I don't know if the Beavers would have been in consideration by a kid like Tyner.
On another note, the Beavers just got a commit from a 340 lb guard... the video I saw looked OK, but it was against players significantly undersized compared to him.
Hopefully the Beavers can parlay this early success on the field into some more success in recruiting beyond Tyner...

There is something to be said for proximity to home in recruiting... That said, I would not like to be testing that against Saban't recruiting prowess... Of course, can a northwestern kid have SEC speed?

Nah, we'd already have him if we wanted him. The REC knows all and sees all. Who knows? The REC knows.

So the kid's a big Ducks fan and committed early, and now he wants to check other schools. Big deal, I'm sure Oregon is still his primary interest. If he chooses another school good luck to him, I'm sure he'll be successful. But honestly, I hope its not the Beavs. ; )

He probably would be kind of average playing Texas h.s. ball. He looks like a grown man playing against middle school kids in Oregon. He is built well and fast so IMO he will be successful in cfb.
