08:22 AM ET 10.18 | On the surface, a 50-50 split would seem to be all the ground that needed conceding in the labor dispute, but it's not that simple. The two sides are getting closer, but there still remains a significant gap. The NHL's latest offer of an across the board 50-50 split over the life of a new agreement moves them some $300- to $400-million closer to where the NHLPA's last proposal came in, depending on how league revenues grow in the future. Growth is a big wild card in these two offers. If it's high, as with the 7.1 per cent the union forecasts, these two proposals are just $110-million apart per season over the next five years. But if it's low, as with the 5 per cent the league forecasts, they are $200-million apart per season.

amazing that the league can boast about the record profits the league has been making then come contract time demand the players give up hundreds of millions a year... am i missing something??? Would be like your boss telling you hes never made so much money then asking you to take a salary cut..... heres the jist... every last one of them make too much money... the owners and players should take a paycut so ticket prices can get back down to a level where a family can go watch a game and not be broke in doing so...
