Rams take special precautions to prep for Clay Matthews

12:55 PM ET 10.18 | The St. Louis Rams sure have an unusual way of getting ready to face Green Bay Packers pass rusher Clay Matthews. Head coach Jeff Fisher picked up a blonde Halloween wig for one of his practice squad linebackers to wear, just to add to the effect. This is not the first time Fisher has added props to his practices. All of it is an effort to make his players aware of their presence. "I've done that in the past, particularly with Troy Polamalu. When you're playing great players like Polamalu and Matthews, you like to know where they are on the field, and that helps."

Upon further investigation, said practice squad linebacker liked the wig and has decided to wear it all the time in hopes he can fool someone into signing him from the practice squad.

He may look like him, but he can't move like him.

The boogey man comes!!!! And I'm a Rams fan.....

So if Matthews gets a haircut, they're effed? Is that what you're saying?

October 18, 2012  01:19 PM ET

But opposing teams never do that for his players, hmmm...

Did Fisher used to work with Rex Ryan ? This seems like something Rex would do

Or... if he puts his hair up in a bun.

Thus adding extra padding to the inside of his helmet, thereby reducing his risk of a concussion.

Brilliant!

They are usually not hard to find, they will be in your backfield sacking your QB or crushing your running backs.

Or in your face, releaving you of the ball. I watched one game last year when Troy vaulted the D and O lines and took the RB down for a loss. I just couldn't believe it.

I guess knowing his uniform number is of no use at all.

October 18, 2012  02:43 PM ET

We are talking about the Rams, most of them didn't know numbers went that high

October 18, 2012  02:49 PM ET

Just cut his girly hair off and he'll lose all his powers

October 18, 2012  02:52 PM ET

Packers need a big game from Clay!

They don't need to know where he is. He'll come to them. Very customer-oriented.

That's the problem for the QB -- he rarely lines up in the same place play after play ... coaches let him move around ...

I hope the Rams destroy this greasy ratty-haired overrated player. I'm sick of hearing about him, he isnt as good as he thinks. He needs a haircut and a bar of soap.. but if Clay would have it his way, he would probably prefer to be picking up the soap.
