Greinke's decision holding up the Angels

08:09 AM ET 10.19 | In a perfect world, the Angels would either have top off-season target Zack Greinke already locked up or a firm understanding that he's signing elsewhere. That would give General Manager Jerry Dipoto a clear view of the Angels' roster and payroll before having to make three key early November decisions: whether to extend a qualifying offer of about $13 million to outfielder Torii Hunter and whether to pick up 2013 options for pitchers Dan Haren and Ervin Santana. But winter plans rarely unfold in such clean, linear fashion, and they won't for the Angels. Greinke, the top pitcher on the market, is expected to take his free agency negotiations deep into November and probably December, which could muddle things for Dipoto.

Greinke should come home and pitch for the Cardinals. with the team they have now, Carpenter and Wainright healthy, Lohse pitching the way he has, adding Greinke would gib=ve them an awesome rotation. beat the Tiger and its 12 in 12, add Greinke and lets go after 13 in 13

The Greinke decision shouldn't be holding up anything on Hunter, Haren & Santana.
Hunter - For 1 year, sign him - he's earned it with this past season.
For Haren & Santana - No & No.
Use the Money to either resign Greinke and bring in / trade for higher quality Innings eaters

The Cards won't pay Greinke the kind of money he probably is thinking about, and also 26 and 35 both will be free agents at the end of the season, and I am sure the Cards will concentrate on signing at lease one or both of them during the off season instead.

Agreed. Greinke should take his time, this is his first and probably last big payday, and he is likely to receive several interesting offers.

Yeah, the Cards won't be players for Grienke. Waino, Carp, Westbrook and Garcia are already under contract for next year, and they have Lynn, Kelly, Rosenthal and Miller waiting in the wings as well. Garcia may not be ready by Spring, but hey are going to go with those young guns in their rotation.

greinke undecided about what type of team/contract/deal/should he take? shouldn't affect hunter at all, about ervin santana and dan haren, this two players didn't do much to help their free agency position,,,,,,

this pitcher its a free agent, this its the right time and the right opportunity for greinke, to either go to a higher competetive team like the tigers/yankees/rangers/cardenals/ even the cincinati reds, any of this teams could give him a good and very comfortable contract!!!

i guess the angels should wait and see what time and future hold up for arte moreno's team, there is alot to do & fix and clear up their minds in anaheim, should the halos pay santana his 13 million option? should the angels pay dan haren his 15 million option? or should the team let them walk away?? we know that this two players didn't do too good in the 2012 season

angels would need to analize deeply into their rotation, there is not only one pitcher but 3 pitchers could be gone in a blink of an eye, the best pitcher here is greinke, but if greinke choose to play and sign somewehere else, where the angels are left of? i mean no GREINKE, no SANTANA, no DAN HAREN,

the angels have two options, either sign GREINKE to a 5 years deal, or sign free agent KYLE LOHSE, from the cards,or neither pitcher and ended without anything good to compete in the 2013 season!!!

the angels would have great advantage with greinke in their rotation,
the pitcher has been in the american league before with the royals,
he has proved that he can pitch in either league and can be a tough competetor in any team,

Not sure how many teams will be willing to spend big on Greinke or Lohse. There are things about each that will frighten teams away.
