[One] player privately made a far more indicting observation: that the ballclub was affected by the hostility from the fans at Yankee Stadium last weekend. "I really think the booing spooked a lot of guys," the player said. "A lot of guys hadn't been booed before, and they couldn't believe how nasty it got in the stands." Obviously Nick Swisher admitted to being sensitive to such treatment after Game 2, but the player said Swisher was far from alone in his reaction. "A lot of guys were talking about it in the clubhouse," he said. "I was surprised by how much it bothered them. I really don't think they ever recovered." If that's true, well, so much for the big, bad Yankees.

I'm not sure why this is such a shock. It's not like this was the 1st times the fans ever boo'd the Yankees when they were losing a series.

Hold on....let's step back a little...all I ever read is how disloyal every other team's fans are compared to Yankee fans..that Yankee fans stick with their team through thick and thin (well obviously the thin part isn't true)....I just find if very hypocritical....in few years when the Mets are contending (hopefully)..and the Yankees are sucking wind..half those fans will be back in Citifield..just like in the late 80's when they flocked to Shea.....

Exactly.
As a team, the Yankees batted a stunning .157 vs. the Tigers, 43 points below the Mendoza line. Again, that was as a team.
Cano batted .056, Granderson a goose egg at .000 and A-Rod batted .111. They made Swisher's .250 look stunning. Nunez (.333 in a limited 6 ABs) and Ichiro (.353) were the only Yankees to hit above .250.
I have never witnessed this level of ineptitude before.
