08:12 AM ET 10.19 | Would the Rangers consider trading Elvis Andrus? One thing we know about the Rangers' front office: They'll look at any and every opportunity to improve the club. Some teams might shut the door before it opens when discussing certain players. Not Texas. Jon Daniels and his staff will text, email and chat with just about any staff in baseball if it could lead to something. So when it comes to tossing around ideas, isn't the notion that there might be a market for Andrus at least broached internally? On the surface, there are plenty of reasons to dismiss this and I'm not advocating making a trade. But like anything on this front, it depends on the deal. ... [If] Andrus could help net a frontline starter, I'm willing to listen.

I think their willingness to trade Andrus would have a lot to do with whether or not they have a capable SS coming up through their farm system. Top level shortstops aren't easy to find.

Can't they just sign Grienke as a FA and keep Andrus, and put the prospect at 2B?

Yes, Profar--but the other day a Ranger fan claimed that they were working Profar at 2nd in the minors at least some of the time., and that the plan was to move Kinsler to LF if Hamilton leaves.
Andrus is a darn good SS, who hits a little bit; it would take a good offer to pry him loose I think.

I think so too, but it might be a hard sell in Texas. Red Sox fans have complained too long and loudly about Elssbury's injuries for any team to risk taking him on.

Am I the only Rangers fan that thinks Hamilton comes back? Daniels messed up not signing Fielder, he has no viable option to replace Hamilton's power, and no one in the near future in the farm system that has this guys production. Here's what you do. Signing Hamilton and Grienke is going to happen. Package Andrus in a deal for Upton out of Arizona to put in center. Sign Napoli as a first baseman, Brian McCann on a one year deal fills the catching void (since the braves won't pick up his option) and use Murphy and Moreland as trade bait for another starter. That keeps Kinsler at 2nd, Profar moves into the SS role, gives us a power hitting first baseman and keeps the outfield in tact. Gives you another year to get Olt ready and find a long term solution at catcher without screwing with the core.
