Three Irish QBs in mix to start

08:16 AM ET 10.19 | To the question of who will start Saturday, this much we know: It won't be Gunner Kiel. Sophomore Everett Golson, junior relief specialist Tommy Rees, and, yes, even junior Andrew Hendrix are all in play to take the first offensive snap from center Saturday for the fifth-ranked Irish (6-0) in what was shaping up to be a defense-fest with BYU (4-3) anyway. It has nothing to do with Golson's herky-jerky growth curve, per ND coach Brian Kelly, and everything to do with the sophomore, first-year starter distancing himself from the concussion he suffered late in the fourth quarter last Saturday against Stanford. "Game-time decision," Kelly said Thursday evening after practice.

Hadnt read anything lately on the QB situation at ND so I am glad they put this one up this morning.

Y'know, in the same way, I was wondering if Mack was gonna resign or get canned, any news on that one? Been a while since I had any news from that situation.

Yeah, if you don't know who your starting QB is or should be, 6 games into the season, you could be in trouble for the rest of the season. Yes ND has a very good defense, but if your offense can't carry your team against a good opponent, it usual catches up to you and I see ND losing a game or two in the near future.

I am still in limbo on finding out if Dooley is on the Hot Seat too???

Why not just burn the RS of Kiel and start the Gunner era early?

Anyone but Rees.

STILL whacking that guy?

I understand and admire your ability to maintain your position, but ever consider that maybe the young man has learned a few lessons over the last year or two, and might be the better for it both as a player and a person? Just sayin.

Doc doesn't seem to share your view. I wonder what results you would get if you polled all of Whorn Nation about ditching Mack or not?

QUOTE(#11):

Ever consider that he isn't a skilled QB and the reason Kelly keeps going to Golson is because, given 4 quarters, Rees wouldn't get the job done? Every pass he makes you have to hold your breath. Even in the OT period against Stanford it was literally a cardiac arrest inducing experience watching him throw the football. He floats passes, he throws behind receivers...TJ Jones had an amazing catch.

I would love to see Rees start in Norman next week!!! I will text you pics!!!

amazing that they Irish have gotten where they have with such spotty play at qb. Clearly this year was intended to let Golson grow...and here they are very competitive. Its pretty impressive.

given where expectations were at the start of the season, if theyre 7-0 going into OU...I would find it really hard to be disappointed if they lose. Also, given the rest of the schedule, going into USC with only 1 loss would be an incredible accomplishment.

Even if they move a tight end under center, the Irish should prevail against BYU.

Look piratey, I'm not trying to say Rees is your man, you need to be starting him. Not at all.

But at least recognize that the guy has provided decent enough play to keep your team undefeated when they needed him, and coming off the bench in a pressure situation ain't all that easy to do.
