01:23 PM ET 10.19 | Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald has called out Vanderbilt after the Dores canceled the rest of their scheduled football series, saying, "We thought that we were peer institutions, and obviously we were mistaken. I think it just shows where our program is heading in comparison to theirs." But Vandy denies it's scared of anybody, chalking it all up to the SEC schedule: "Vanderbilt was playing Ole Miss on August 31, when our Ohio State game had previously been planned, and is traveling to South Carolina on Sept. 14, 2013, when we had expected to play Northwestern."

SEC SEC SEC . . . oh wait, nevermind.

October 19, 2012  01:55 PM ET

Yep. The SEC teams will take some flack as the conference works out its schedule for 14 members.

October 19, 2012  02:13 PM ET

Reee-hee-hee-hee-heallly...........They're Vanderbilt. They surely don't have an issue with losing, even to Northwestern.

October 19, 2012  02:18 PM ET

Pat who............

Well Vandy did get out of their trip to Columbus next year and it does sound a little fishy why Vandy cancelled those games!!!!

October 19, 2012  02:28 PM ET

So, they're saying they had "tentative" dates set for these OOC games, and when the new 2013 SEC schedule came out, they learned they now had conf games on those dates? Is that correct?

Any other SEC teams have OOC games already planned but now have conf games on those dates? We'll find that out soon enough.

October 19, 2012  02:29 PM ET

In the case of conflicts with the newly enlarged SEC schedule, teams have a choice to try and reschedule OOC games, or exit the agreements. It's that simple.

October 19, 2012  02:29 PM ET

uhh, and pretty sure that ain't James Franklin in that pic.

Isn't that Quarles from SCe?

Vandy and the SEC should be taking the flack. All the teams in the SEC don't play each other "every" year, so why did Vandy back out of these games??? Is Vandy still scheduled to play Austin Peay and UMASS next year, in lieu of Ohio State and Northwestern??????

Settle down, OT, it appears to be date conflicts with the upheaval in the conf schedule from adding Misery and eaTme, not "backing out of games". I suggest you click on the SB Nation link and actually read the article.

I'm sorry, but I can't really buy that excuse. These OOC games were schedule for years!!!!! Does that mean that the other SEC teams will be backing out of their scheduled OOC games, so it won't "conflicts with the newly enlarged SEC schedule"????

The "SB Nation link", doesn't tell me <hit, except that Vandy blacked out of two pretty good OOC games and are still scheduled to play "Austin Peay and UMASS" next year, in lieu of Ohio State and Northwestern. My friend, why in the hell are you telling me to "settle down"??? Are you one of the FN mods??? LOL.

Ok. Breath. The SEC just expanded. Schedules are gonna be fragged for a few years before it shakes out.

No. Wait. Get even more riled up. Give us an absurd binge that'll be discussed for the next twelve months. Unleash your anger. Only your hatred will make you powerful enough to lay waste to this thread!

BS&B, you missed the point. I realize that the 12 PAC, Big 10 teams don't play all thems in their conference every year. My point was why is Vandy cancelling OOC good OOC game and still schedule to play "Austin Peay and UMASS next year. Won't playing those two teams, "conflict with the newly enlarged SEC schedule"????

LOL, I don't have any hatred for the SEC, maybe I don't like them, but I sure in the hell don't hate them. Oh yeah, I do have quite a bit of waste to apply to this thread and any other FN thread, but no more BS then you and most of us that post on FN. You my friend are the one that seems to be getting "riled" up. I'm really sorry if I hit a nerve!!! Sit back, crack open a beer and take it easy. :-)

Obviously not. If they were in conflict, Vandy would've canceled them and added "money" games against other available lesser opponents.

BTW, when were these added to the 'Dores schedule? Could they be fill in games for slots made available in the new schedule?

I agree with the Cats coach, both schools are for higher learning, but Vandy got a taste of bowl game money last year, and with the SEC schedule and a race a to 6 wins, I guess they decided to schedule a team they think they have a better chance of beating to help them get to 6 wins and bowl eligible.
