LeBron's cavalier attitude on speeding

Everything LeBron "Speed Racer" James has said since getting ticketed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for topping out at 101 mph (in a 65 zone) on a Cleveland-area interstate around 3 a.m., Dec. 30., his 23rd birthday, gives a good indication it was a valuable lesson unlearned. What's more, I might've perceived a Cavalier attitude. "It's 200 on the dashboard. I was doing 101," James remarked this week. "That's it. I was speeding. I've just got to abide by the law. I got caught. It happens." When asked whether he'll continue flooring it, James gave no assurance to the contrary. "I don't know, maybe at times. It's not a big deal to me. I made a mistake, and I'll live with it. I'm not going to jail or nothing like that. I wasn't drunk. I was just speeding. That's it."

you must be kidding pctx1030

January 18, 2008  08:08 AM ET

He's right though, who doesn't speed on highways?
even Bush does it.....

January 18, 2008  08:55 AM ET

10-15-20 miles over......Sure

But 36 miles over the speed limit is way excessive.......

January 18, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Everybody has exceeded the speed limit at some point but come on......Not everybody acts like the highways are their personal NASCAR exhibition.....

January 18, 2008  08:57 AM ET

At least he was in a car and not on a motorcycle. I bet Jay Williams doesn't speed anymore.

January 18, 2008  09:03 AM ET

If it was you or me, our licesne would have been revoked on the spot and we would have been charged with reckless driving. Just another example of pro athletes being above the law.

January 18, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Who here hasn't done a buck at one time or another? Give me a break.

January 18, 2008  09:09 AM ET

When he ends up rear-ending a van full of kids or losing control of his car and smashing into a pole, then he'll have a wake-up call right? Speeding is stupid... it can get you and other people killed. If you want to 'test' your car or pretend that your in NASCAR go to a track and do it... or somewhere private. Not on public roads.

January 18, 2008  09:10 AM ET

I doubt many people have driven 101 in a 65 zone. His license should have been suspended for a month or two.

January 18, 2008  09:12 AM ET

If you have a car that can push 2 bills LeBron, you should never be doing LESS than 100 mph!

January 18, 2008  09:13 AM ET

I hate when people say well so and so could have slammed into a van full of kids...blah, blah, blah...

He didnt though so dont use that argument!

At least he isnt lying about it

January 18, 2008  09:19 AM ET

I'm surprised at the comments here. I don't know what the traffic conditions were but I imagine many people have put their foot down on an empty highway at least once.

January 18, 2008  09:20 AM ET

And a 100 isn't so crazy. You aren't out of control smashing into school buses and trees. It's actually standard fare in Europe. No big deal.

January 18, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Exactly Jazinho

January 18, 2008  09:28 AM ET

He can afford the ticket. I can't.

January 18, 2008  09:36 AM ET

So, LJ does not feel speeding is such a big deal. He spend, received a ticket and will pay the consequences. That our system. I have received a ticket for going 98 mph and yes the officer had the option to arrest me on the spot, but as the officer said, he had the option but since I was not drinking and I was truthful, he gave me a ticket and told me to slow down. All the "what ifs" are just stupid...he could have been going 65 mph and if he would have had an accident...everyone would have been saying "why was he out a 3 AM". People get a life.
