07:19 AM ET 10.20 | The odds of John Farrell being the next Red Sox manager appear to be improving. Though not privy to details of the ongoing negotiations between the Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, one industry source with a link to the Jays expressed a gut feeling yesterday that Farrell will be "gone" from Toronto, with the teams ultimately agreeing on compensation to free the manager from the final year of his contract. But Farrell's future still hinges on how much the Red Sox are willing to give up for him. And a major league executive from a National League team reiterated this week that Jays president Paul Beeston will let Farrell go only if Toronto receives at least one "decent player" in return, suggesting the player must be an immediate contributor to the 25-man roster because of the "repercussions" involved in allowing a manager to flee to a division rival.

Supply and demand, but I just don't get why he is so much in demand. I've read the stories about how well respected he is by the players but no reason the candidates they've already interviewed wouldn't be as well. I still say go with Tony Pena.

Farrell is not worth trading any player. Ausmus!

The only positive is the Sox now have the financial flexibility. With only $46M in guaranteed contracts for 2013, they can shape this team any way they want. Of course as we have seen in the past, just because you have the money doesn't mean you will spend it wisely.

IMO, they need to forget about FA's and concentrate on trades. Acquire as many prospects as possible, so when a player like Gio Gonzalez or Matt Latos becomes available on the trade market they can be players.

Should have kept Bobby V and traded the two even up ( just kidding). Honestly, it happened years ago in MLB. Managers traded for each other.

I would have no problem moving Ellsbury or Buchholz, and I certainly would put Lester on the market, if nothing else to gauge his worth.
After watching this pathetic bunch of underachievers this year, anybody should be available, other than Pedroia, who IMO is the only guy who gives you everything he has every time he's on the field.

Agree. Everyone on this team should be considered expendable.
(Except, of course, Bard. He'll be back and he will DOMINATE!)
