10:10 AM ET 10.21 | The A's struck early in their preparations for 2013, trading infielder Cliff Pennington to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday for center fielder Chris Young and cash. he trade begs the question of what happens to incumbent center fielder Coco Crisp, who is under contract next season at $7 million. The A's didn't acquire Young, a 29-year-old with three 20-homer/20-steal seasons, to sit him on the bench. Beane, though, sought to squelch trade speculation regarding Crisp, saying he doesn't plan to move any of his five outfielders under team control -- Crisp, Young, Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Reddick or Seth Smith. He said he envisions those five rotating and sharing designated hitter duties.

Young needed out of Arizona, and may prosper in Oakland. But look for Beane to deal Crisp to a team such as Washington or Atlanta, depending on where Michael Bourn lands.

everybody should share the OF,plus there is the risk of injuries, the DH spot would be for the taker,,,

CRISP SHOULD STAY IN THE A's ORGANIZATION, AND why WOULD BEANE TRADE AWAY CRISP?? i thought he likes his OF the way things are untill this point~!!!!!

Possiiby, but 5 players for 4 positions isn't too many. Johnny Gomes seems to be the odd man out,.

One year left on an affordable contract makes any veteran OF trade bait.

Beane will trade anybody. Anybody. Especially when their value is highest...like Crisp's is now.

wiseup: Crisp plays and hit cicles around Young. Chris Young when I have watched D-Backs play Young was much of a contributer.the majority of the D-Backs productioncame from Bloomquist , Hill, Kubel, And Montero.Parra also split time with Young. Why Oakland wanted Young, who knows unless Crisp or young will DH. They probably will try to move Gommes or be DFA

Young gives the A's a lot of flexibility with their outfield and DH, he's a positive addition to the team!

If I recall, Coco didn't care for platooning in Boston. Maybe his attitude has changed as he aged.
