Did Bill Belichick pull fast one on Tim Tebow?

11:57 AM ET 10.21 | Bill Belichick ran a spying operation for years in New England, taping and stealing defensive signals, decoding them and using them to his advantage to prepare for the next time he faced the same team. The coach in the gray hoodie is so secretive that if you asked him what time the Patriots were playing the Jets, his answer would be, "Some time on Sunday." He gives away nothing. That's why the first sign that he had absolutely no intention of drafting Tim Tebow in 2010 came when he took him out to dinner to an Italian restaurant in the north end of Boston one month before the draft. Of course, that immediately sparked rumors that Belichick, who was very close to then-Florida coach Urban Meyer and used to spend time with him in the offseason in Gainesville, was going to take Tebow when New England's turn came up at No. 22, or trade down a few spots and then take him. If Belichick truly was going to draft Tebow, he would have put him in a Tom Brady disguise and then stashed him in a closet in his office in Foxborough. It sounds as if Belichick even spoke to Tebow at dinner in Boston. "I had a great visit with him. He was a great guy and I had a lot of fun with him," Tebow said. When Belichick would visit Florida with his staff, Tebow sat in on meetings and watched a lot of film with the Patriots coach. Tebow said he got to know him really well. When I asked Tebow if he thought Belichick was going to draft him, he said, "I didn't know. I felt like we had a good chemistry. Obviously, I respected him and I know that he liked the way a lot of my teammates played at Florida, obviously by how many of them he has on their team now."

Misdirection is pretty much SOP for all football teams.

Gotta love that a NY paper opened a story with a Spygate reference.

Ding! Correct. The fact is, when he has a pick in the upper half of the first round Belichek has had no worries about signalling his interest in a player. He did so with Mayo, Seymour and Wilfolk. None of them were surprises, even though most pre draft pundits didn't have Mayo or Wilfolk graded so high. He could have done worse than drafting Tebow in the first round. Arguably, McCourty fits that definition

Problem is only one of the 2 is a competent coach. And it isn't Ryan... At least if Bellicheck had Tebow, he'd find more use for him. Don't like the Pats, but I'll give credit where it's due.

Did Bill Belichick pull fast one on Tim Tebow?
The point being : Belichick gave the Jets & Ryan the impression he was interested in Tebow...
The end result : The Jets p/u Tebow & have used him, how many times...? Bottom line, Belichick baited the hook & Ryan/Jets took the hook, line, & sinker.... Or is that Stinker..?

This really looks like a story that belongs on ESPN - the Tebow experts.

That was a waste of time.
