Richardson: Injury worse than people think

08:00 AM ET 10.22 | Rookie running back Trent Richardson faced the harsh reality Sunday that Pat Shurmur didn't think he was effective enough to play. Richardson attempted to fight through a rib cartilage injury he suffered last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, but Shurmur benched him after he was stuffed for no gain on third-and-1 from the Colts' 35-yard line with 4:17 left in the second quarter. ... "Coach didn't think I was as I usually am," said Richardson, who wore a flak jacket to protect his ribs. "That's something I have to swallow. It's a process trying to get back. The injury I have is much bigger than what folks think it is, and I don't want to do anything to hurt the team. I'm not myself out there right now."

The Browns can't get a break...

Now this Rookie truly recognize! When got drafted by the Browns my eyebrow went up, good selection, but its the Browns so you have to wonder.

Sounds like desperate times in Cleveland. Ya right Holmgren is going to stay around and help the next GM. I got money that says his desk is cleared out and he has been paid off.
New owner had to blame someone so good ol Holmgren took the fall.

Shurmur is gone for sure. Anyone notice the look on Haslam's face when they punted on fourth and one?

October 22, 2012  10:20 AM ET

Why did you even draft him? He wanted to play! So he got stuffed on 3rd and 1. That doesn't mean you should sit him the rest of the game. He is a force on the field even if he doesn't touch the ball. Defenses will have to respect him on play action. Would not surprise me if Haslam decides to fire Shurmur going into the bye week.

True...sometimes you need a decoy to get the other team thinking one way...but then again, this is coaching 101. Not sure Shurmur has passed that course yet

After the 3rd and 1 play they may have noticed something on the sidelines that made them think he had reinjured the ribs, or something. He is an exciting runner when healthy, hope he gets back to form soon.

If you watched the game, you could see he wasn't himself. It wasn't just the 3rd and 1. After his first carry he got up holding his ribs and looked like it was hurting to breathe hard like you would after running hard for a play. The 3rd and 1 was just the last chance he got and like mentioned above, they may have noticed he was hurting more then he said. Bruised ribs are tough to play through as they will affect your breathing and therefore your recovery between plays...

Every year that Holmgren is in Cleveland makes Ron Wolf look that much better.

Somebody needs to pull this guy out of the weight room and get him to concentrate on stretching...

October 22, 2012  10:55 PM ET

If the man says he is not 100% then I believe him and would like him back at 100%. The Browns are going to have a top five pick to play with in the draft anyway. Maybe the one or two. So let time tell the story.

Hey Cleveland!! There's some talent out there just waiting for you, hint T.O. What do you have to lose?
