Young D-Backs star on the block

08:11 AM ET 10.22 | It wasn't all that long ago that Diamondbacks managing general partner Ken Kendrick said it was "highly likely" Justin Upton would remain with the team -- but should we believe him? Perhaps Upton could bring the D-Backs a starting pitcher. Some in the industry believe the team might even package him with one of its current starters to get a legitimate top-of-the-rotation type. Or, perhaps Upton could bring a shortstop. ... Willie Bloomquist and John McDonald are the other internal options at short -- McDonald, a highly valued utility man, could be traded. Either way, the Diamondbacks need to finally make up their minds on Upton, whom they once viewed as their cornerstone. At this point, it's fair to ask whether Upton even wants to stay.

Mr. GM you cannot blow smoke up nobody's pipe since you tried to trade Upton at the trade deadline this year with no takers, maybe he is not as valuable as you think he is to other teams.

Ranger's SS Elvis Andrus goes to Arizona For Upton and prospects. Arizona can't turn down the opportunity to have an All Star SS for a guy who has been inconsistent, and Texas loves inconsistent. This give them a good CF and makes room for their young 19 year old stud Profar. It makes sense.

IMO, if the Rangers deal Andrus or Profar it should be for pitching.

His brother BJ is the CF; Justin is an average RF. That might be an improvement for Texas--on his career Nelson Cruz has been a better RF than Upton, but the last two years his defense has dropped off. But Andrus is too much to offer for a slight defensive improvement in the OF.

Hard to let 43HRs walk away, but the guy has had issues with crack, alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine addictions...I'm starting to think he's a walking time bomb.

See also: age. He ain't getting any younger.

Then the Yankees can trade A-Rod back to Texas, where he can play shortstop again, and get one of their young pitchers in return..

i said trade upton get a solid starter, then turn in the other side and trade a starter for upgraded starter, i think if the d'backs are able to get james shields from the rays for upton,,, things could shine very well in arizona!!!!
