08:12 AM ET 10.22 | The hits keep on coming for Alex Rodriguez, though these aren't the ones that might keep him from the arrows of his critics. [Brian Cashman] hastened to add Sunday that it's "unrealistic" to think the team will move A-Rod -- and the five years and $114 million remaining on his contract -- this winter. "If anybody wants to call me on anything, I will listen to anything about any player," Cashman said. ... Cashman made it clear he's not banking on the aging three-time American League Most Valuable Player's regaining his luster. "Is he still a superstar? No," Cashman said in a telephone interview with the Daily News. "Is he still an above-average player at his position? Yes. He was this year and we expect him to be one moving forward."

The real question here is he still going to a average player through his entire 5 years he has remaining on his contract.

I believe it was only loudmouthed Hank who brokered this deal. That's why you don't hear much from Hank anymore.

That's what 100 million and a superstar for a girlfriend gets ya - he's becoming less and less dedicated to his work.
Contracts should just not be allowed to go over 5 years for anyone or anytime. If it was a hard & fast rule every team had to abide by, it wouldn't be a factor in the shopping spree after a player's first contact is up.
