Rumors of Knicks trade talks

Though Isiah Thomas keeps talking about not wanting to make a trade, there has been various reports he has turned down deals left and right. In fact, ESPN reported Thomas turned down a chance at Ron Artest, because he didn't want to give up Nate Robinson and Renaldo Balkman in a package. It also was reported the Cavs were interested in Jamal Crawford, and the Knicks could have snared Larry Hughes in a package.

While an Artest for Nate Rob and Balkman deal sounds good for the Knicks, it would probably turn into a disaster. Crawford has been one of the only consistent players for the Knicks...Hughes on the other hand, has been pretty much the opposite of consistent...Every deal the Knicks make usually turn out bad and these two look destined for failure.

Larry Huges I'm not interested in, but Artest would be a very interesting piece in new york due to his defensive aggression on key players in the eastern conference.

I'd hate to lose Nate and Balk for somebody we could add as an unrestricted free agent in the near future. somebody who definitely wants to play for the orange and blue.

crawford hasn't been very consistent this year by the way. that honor goes to David Lee I'd have to say. the last time crawford was consistent, Larry Brown was coach of the New York Knicks.

Isiah is waiting for the offers to trade himself...

As far as i'm concerned the Knicks next move should be trading for Ron Artest. While Robinson and Balkman are nice young players, trading them for Artest is a no brainer. I thought the Kings wouldn't be interested in trading Artest to the Knicks if Lee wasn't a part of the deal, so it would be great if Isiah could trade for Artest and still have Lee and their lottery pick. If they can keep most of their prized assets, aquire Artest and not take the bad contract of Abdur-Rahim or Thomas... it would be a great trade for the Knicks.

I don't even want to think about the Knicks being foolish enough to trade for Larry Hughes.

I really like nate the great. I also like Balkman. That is Artest makes 8 Million. Therefore the deal can not get done without James or jefferies to equal 8 million. I like the idea of losing one of those contracts.

Artest has a player option and can opt out after this years. I want artest, but the price was to high for a player that can live in 3 months.

Some of you keep telling me the Knicks have no talent. If these reports are true, and these are the same reports you believe everyday, then apparently.

Nate, Balkman, Zach, Crawford, Lee are wanted by other teams

Again before Isiah got here, the knick did not have 1 I repeat, not 1 player wanted by another team. The Knicks were also 40 Million in cap higher.

Thomas is stupid to turn down Artest for Robinson and Balkman

Typical

Larry Hughes is extremely consistent. He consistently is out 20-30 games each year with an injury. Artest in NYC will make the team the biggest head-case in the league. I'm not a Knicks fan, so I say do it!!

January 18, 2008  09:15 AM ET

I'd hate to see Nate go. I love the lil guy, but dont really care much for balkman...but for artest, that would be a good deal.

January 18, 2008  09:20 AM ET

Balkman has great upside and Robinson is a little too inconsistent for my taste (not a Knicks fan but hoops nut).......Robinson isnt a natural PG, more like a Bobby Jackson type of player.....That isnt very much to give up although to match 75% of Artest's salary, somebody else would have to be included.....

Plus the Kings have Bibby and Udrih......

January 18, 2008  09:21 AM ET

Hughes might be injury prone but he isnt a cancer like Marbury......

January 18, 2008  09:33 AM ET

Both of those turned down trades in the abbreviated article above was were good decisions. Keeping these young players together and toughing it though another lottery season will ultimately be fruitful for this organization. Isiah just needs to move Marbury and not expect every point guard he gets to play like Isiah Thomas clones. Believe or not in the long run this team will be turned around.

January 18, 2008  09:34 AM ET

Not this year, but just look at what Portland has done as an example of how to turn an organization around i.e. getting rid of Zach Randolph

January 18, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Crawford for Larry Hughes makes no sense at all. Crawford is one of only 3 Knicks that have been somewhat consistent. Hughes is exactly the oposite, and injury proned. Balkman would be better served as far away from the Knicks as possible, but the very last thing the Knicks need is Ron Artest--which means Isiah will probably make the deal. This would keep his record intact--that is his record of not having made an intelligent decision since arriving in New York.

dumb

Isiah might as well face the fact, he created this mess, so now he has to wallow in it..No way is any self respecting GM (Kevin McHale doesn't qualify) gonna take any of the Knicks side show characters for equal value..These guys will only get pennies on the dollar...Now if he wants to trade Marbury and Eddy Curry, he can probably get Kwame Brown, especially after his performance last night...

Crawford is not a bad player at all

Arguably he is better than Vince Carter
