10:59 AM ET 10.22 | It's a make-or-break week for the NHL's legacy as a major sport, writes ESPN's Scott Burnside. The league has set a Thursday deadline to save the 82-game season, and after the grandstanding of a week ago, the NHL and the NHLPA must come together on a new deal if they want to save an asterisk-free 2012-13 season. Burnside writes that if the league and the union save the full season, the work stoppage will be forgotten in history, but a shortened season or a lost season will be judged harshly by history.

please note that this is from ESPN, an organisation that usually builds a legacy in something after 3 months, and whose knowledge of hockey is slightly more...only slightly than Comssioner Tom Thumb's.

Amen. Self-congratulatory is their most humble quality.
