05:09 PM ET 10.22 | The Dallas Mavericks are optimistic that Dirk Nowitzki will be sidelined for far less time than anticipated after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Friday. Nowitzki was originally expected to be out for six weeks, but a report by ESPN Dallas indicates that the team was "encouraged" by the "routine nature" of the surgery and thinks Nowitzki will return to the court in as little as three weeks. That would mean that he would come back in mid-November rather than at the beginning of December.

Dirk has a long history of recovering quickly, so I wouldn't be surprised by this at all.

Might sounds crazy, but they seriously need to consider flipping Dirk before the trade deadline to get some valuable building blocks. No superstar is gonna be enticed to come down to Dallas next summer just to play alongside an old man Nowitzki (see: Deron Williams). If they can flip him to a desperate contender for some cheap intriguing pieces and/or an expiring contract, they might be able to lure multiple big names in the next offseason.
