The offer was snatched back before a thirsty hockey fan could spell Budweiser. Shortly before lunchtime Thursday, the St. Louis Blues sent an e-mail to fans announcing "Tuesdays on Tap," a promotion offering unlimited free beverages, including beer, for certain tickets to five upcoming home games. One-half hour before the free-beer e-mail went out, the Associated Press wire service moved a story from Newcastle, Ontario, reporting that a judge had just sentenced former Blues defenseman Rob Ramage to four years in prison for a drunken-driving crash in which a friend and fellow hockey player died.

Who came up with this idea in the first place?

January 18, 2008  10:33 AM ET

Good idea to scratch the plan!

January 18, 2008  10:38 AM ET

please keep sliding so Keith could get traded back home to my B's

January 18, 2008  10:39 AM ET

good move - sell tickets based on a promotion, then pull the promotion...oughta leave alot of fans happy with their ticket purchase. But, really, like RWhite said, who came up with this idea in the first place? Who would have ever thought that this would be a promo that would fly?

January 18, 2008  11:13 AM ET

I think it was the Beer distibutor who gave them the idea; who else could would think it was a smart move?

January 18, 2008  11:39 AM ET

I like beer.

January 18, 2008  11:43 AM ET

Unlimited was a pretty bad decision, but if it had been 2-3 beers for each of the 5 games in the promotion it should've been okay.

Another problem is that it was going to be Budweiser.

January 18, 2008  11:53 AM ET

if it isn,t canadian beer, why drink it?

January 18, 2008  01:11 PM ET

Wow bad timing, they'll have to figure out another way to put people in the seats.

January 18, 2008  01:24 PM ET

Bud is gahbage.

January 18, 2008  01:35 PM ET

Desperate for fans much? Might I suggest free **** Fridays.

January 18, 2008  01:36 PM ET

BTW, That was Free H.and J.ob Fridays! thank-you.

January 18, 2008  02:01 PM ET

The best beer is free beer. Just like how your favorite beer should be your next one.

January 18, 2008  02:06 PM ET

Guess they've never heard of the infamous "Ten Cent Beer Night" incident. Can always learn something from baseball.

#21 = Jamal Mayer?

January 18, 2008  03:09 PM ET

It's pretty sad when teams can't make promotions like this, because people are either too cheap or too irresponsible to take a cab. Can people honestly not afford $40 for a cab ride to and from the game? Somewhere along the way peope have forgotten that they are responsible for their own actions. If I was going to a game with free beer I sure as h.e.l.l. woudln't drive to the game.

January 18, 2008  03:47 PM ET

Who would make a promotion for this with so many people driving home after the game, Homer Simpson? ummmmmmmm, Dufffff.

January 18, 2008  04:20 PM ET

PackBrew, as a St. Louisan I have to say I agree with the 2-3 beers thing and A-B could afford that but I am insulted at your comment on Budweiser, it's good stuff, it's number two in my beverage consumption next to water

January 18, 2008  04:21 PM ET

and Cheezhead, Duffman was originally a parity on Budman

January 18, 2008  04:22 PM ET

oh, and the isotopes are a parity of the cardinals and the close relationship between the franchise and the countries largest Beer Corporation
