Ice thinning under Rivera

08:02 AM ET 10.23 | Marty Hurney's departure may merely be the beginning of the moves in Carolina, which could worry its head coach. If I'm Ron Rivera, I'm pretty nervous right now. ... More changes are coming. [Jerry Richardson] met with Rivera Monday morning and while Rivera wouldn't reveal much of that conversation, it's apparent that everything is on the table. Rivera said he will coach like his job is at stake over these next 10 games. Richardson, 76, isn't known for his patience and is tired of losing like everyone else. If he will fire his close friend Hurney -- and remember this is the same owner who had a fallout with his own two sons that ended up with Mark and Jon Richardson "resigning" from their high-profile roles with the team in 2009 -- than anything is possible.

Shouldn't every coach do his job this way anyway?

I'm pretty nervous about Dez Bryant. He's playing well, and hasn't messed up seriously for weeks. Something's got to give.

Hiring the right guy in the first place is of utmost importance! Don't Hire Your Friends !!!

This is a warning shot across the bow for Rivera. It seems like this year, the Panthers can't get much figured out on what to do on offense. Newton is not stepping up as a true leader should. The defenive secondary can't cover people which results on the other team converting 3rd and long on a regular basis.

The biggest problem to me that was not mention was number 1 who thinks it all about ME ME ME and that is the major reason they are not winning games.

'Seriously' is the word that jumps out on that comment!

He's toast then!

When an organization is bad year in and year out, it is NOT the GM ... it is NOT the revolving door of coaches (Capers, Seifert, Fox, Rivera) ... it is NOT the quarterbacks (Collins, Buerlein, Weinke, Peete, Delhomme, Testaverde, Clausen, Newton) ... it IS the Ownership and how the team is run. The Buck stops at the top with Richardson and until he acknowledges that he does not know how to run a quality NFL franchise, then the cycle will continue.

At the end of the day he has a quarterback who can't control his emotion and ends up effecting the whole team. It was Cam's fault they lost the falcons game when he fumbled. It was Cam's fault he can't throw the football accurately on a post pattern in the endzone against Dallas. Cam is starting to look like an organization killer.

October 23, 2012  10:35 AM ET

The Falcons game wasn't all Cam's fault. The secondary that allowed a receive to catch a 60 yard bomb had a lot to do with that. Play calling that resulted in the Newton fumble was part of it. Fake a dive up the middle and run it around the outside for the yard.

Newton looks like he was a one year wonder.

Secondary was an issue at the end. Cam's attitude is just terrible. He acts like a child when something doesn't go his way. His ego needs to be put in check. It's not college anymore, defenses figured out how to contain him.

They do in Texas.

A Super Bowl trip and NFC Championship game suggest he might have clue, but the failure to have two winning seasons in a row (I believe) IS an indictment. Hurney's record is a problem: Never found a first-rate #2 receiver, and has squandered a ton of draft picks. I'm thinking Bill Polian may be coming back.
