Pro Bowl on the chopping block

08:04 AM ET 10.23 | Yes, indeed, the Pro Bowl again will appear on the endangered species list. [Commissioner] Roger Goodell said Monday at a town hall meeting sponsored by SiriusXM radio that the Pro Bowl could be abandoned, eventually. "It's really tough to force competition and after a long season to ask those guys to go out and play at the same level that they play is pretty tough," Goodell said. "And I made it very clear last year because I really thought the quality of the game last year was way below standards and if we're going to play like that we should just eliminate the game." He's right. No player who has made it through a long season of games that count healthy enough to play another game has interest in playing hard in a game that doesn't count.

What's a Pro Bowl?

October 23, 2012  08:26 AM ET

No problem with them abandoning the pro bowl, but they should at least have "All Pro voting."

If not, they should do away with talk and stats of "pro bowl appearances" for all players yo.

Putting the game before the Superbowl guarantees that a lot of the really top players won't be there. Plus, the guys who just lost the conference playoff games probably aren't up for it, either. If they wanted to make the Pro Bowl even more useless than it already was, that decision was one of the best they could have made.

Goodell has enhanced the game.

They need to be named to the Pro Bowl. And not play a game. it's annoying seeing the 8th option at a position because players either don't want to play it, or are slightly injured.

Yeah. When second-tier QBs end up starting the Pro Bowl because all the top guys take a pass, it becomes silly.

Besides that, you can still get hurt in a meaningless game. Why risk it?

Last year's lockout and this year's replacement refs don't qualify as an enhancement. Hot Clicks over there --->> qualify as enhancements.
