Humphries too slow to start

08:08 AM ET 10.23 | Already there is concern in New Jersey, where one part of a very expensive rotation is interchangeable. Although [Avery Johnson] didn't go over specific permutations, the odd man out of the lineup would certainly be power forward Kris Humphries, who struggles defensively against quick, hybrid forwards. ... Johnson may be faced with this conundrum on opening night, Nov. 1, against the Knicks. With Amar'e Stoudemire sitting because of a ruptured cyst, the Knicks have discussed using a smaller lineup while shifting Carmelo Anthony to power forward. Deron Williams, when asked about potential mismatches against Anthony, said matter-of-factly, "We'll move Gerald Wallace to the four."

It always comes down to who can impess thier will on the opponent. It looks like the coach is just game planning. And Williams had the simple truth answer anyway.

The Nets will want to ensure they can match up Wallace on Melo. If the Knicks go small -- in the backcourt it looks like they will start Felton & Kidd ... with Brewer at SF ... not much of a matchup for Williams, Johnson & Brooks.

The same disadvantage should also be his advantage. If he's to slow to cover quicker hybrid players then he should be place in a position to make those same hybrid players exposed to their inability to cover him. Removing him from the lineup do not solve the problem because if replaced that player lacks something as well, best case senerio would be to use Humphrey's strenghts to the team advantage and exploit weaknesses of your opponents.

But the point is....Avery will be adapting to the other team, instead of the other way around.....which means he thinks the other team is better.Who'd be guarding the hump? A legit doub, doub guy?Its a sign of weakness

An alternative would be to have Kris guard Melo. Without Amare, the best shot the Knicks have is to have Melo score >40. Kris would have slight height advantage on offensive end ... and definitely on the boards -- but that won't offset Melo going off for 50 points.

Kris could also guard Brewer or Kidd?

Sometimes you do have to play matchups to take away what the other team does best.

In this situation against the Knicks, leave Hump on the floor and let him guard Brewer. Brewer is a total non factor on offense so he should have no trouble guarding him. Then the Knicks will be the team in trouble trying to match the Nets size.

Johnson is a moron.....K-Hump is a stud, I wish the Knicks had'em. D-will is an arrogant fool by foolishly stating the we'll put G-Wad on him. Wallace can't defend Melo, in fact, the only person who can is Lebron and he has trouble with it. The Nets are overrated and you lauders will soon find this out.....in less than a month.

Either Avery is too smart and playing mind games to mess up everyone else, or he is a total turd.
You got GWal and Hump, and who exactly are the Knicks going to match them up against?

If Avery is REALLY this dumb, they should find a new coach BEFORE the season starts. Because what the Nets got on their roster is a REALLY good team (forget the contracts). Brooks is my pick as one of the best up and coming 1-2G in this league (I think he's a better shooting Rondo, just needs some muscle).

Now he's just making up words. Or maybe he's a big fan of Scotch whiskey.

The Knicks could put out Sheed Wallace or Kurt Thomas or Marcus Camby to match up against Kris. Also, right now the Knicks are starting Jason Kidd at SG ... he would be matched up against Joe Johnson.
