08:10 AM ET 10.23 | Toronto's claiming of catcher Bobby Wilson may well wind up part of a chain reaction that pulls in the Texas Rangers. Acquiring Wilson gives the Blue Jays even more depth at an already strong position. The Rangers are looking hard for catching help and the two teams are expected to engage in trade discussions at some point this offseason. Texas could have interest in J.P. Arencibia, who was the Toronto starter the past two seasons. Arencibia hit .233 with 18 home runs, 56 RBIs, a .275 on-base percentage and a .435 slugging percentage over 102 games. ... The Blue Jays have one of the top catching prospects in baseball in Travis d'Arnaud, who spent last season at Triple-A Las Vegas. He could be ready to take over as the Blue Jays' No. 1 catcher.

The article ready didn't say if the Rangers are looking for backup help with a journeyman catcher or a starting catcher to replace their free agent to be catcher now.

I "think" they are looking for something of a more permanent solution. They feel Napoli is exposed if he plays much above 50 games a year at catcher (and I think they would be amenable to resigning him to a 1 year deal if he is looking to reestablish his value) and Soto's "resurgence" was short lived at best.
Add to it the fact that we couldn't stop anyone on the bases and this is a "need".

.....my sources tell me this is part of the process to resing napoli....rangers will resign most of thier free agents, including hambone, at reduced prices....diff next year is that more rest throughout the season for the 30++ guys and green key at the top......with lewis and feliz back, rangers are still, by far, the most talented baseball team on the planet....

Lewis and Feliz will not be back until mid-season. Napoli is resigned only if he doesn't expect the pay to be based on his numbers from 2011, which was by far a career year for him.

Make an offer for McCann with the Braves. Injury issues for sure but if he (LH) and Napoli (RH) can split duty and the odd DH - that's an offensively promising pair if defensively challenged in a big way.

If they are thinking of letting Hamilton go, and bringing up the youngsters, then it would be a good time to look at the catching position too. They could resign Napoli as 1b/dh/occasional C, keep Soto as the back-up C, and look for a young kid to be the starting C; or they could just let Napoli go and see if they have a right-handed power bat somewhere in the minors who could replace Napoli's hitting.

the rangers should ask to the blue jays about bobby wilson, after all he was a every day catcher in the angels team, and lets not forget any catcher WHO comes from the halos organization its a big boost for the rangers and a big lost for the angels tough!!!

now mike sciocia has to play useless iannnetta in every game, should he broke another hand?? that would be the only way we can keep iannetta out of the catching spot in the angels lineup!!!

i guess if the rangers DO want to get jp arcebia then they have to send nelson cruz to the jays, that should be a good offer and good trade for both teams!!!!

the jasys have to be well desperate to get a OF and if that's the case, rangers should trade nelson cruz for a good conssistent catcher in JP ARCEBIA,,,,

the rangers could have a very productive tripleta at the catching spot, the regular catcher with soto, the good hitting from the backup napoli and JP ARCEBIA, where its the weak spot with this trio of catching players??

there had not been a team WHO could put 3 tough conssistant hitters behind the plate, the rangers could be the very first team to do it, all what they need to do is,,, trade for arcebia and things could get very interested in the next season,,,,

while the rangers and other teams get stronger in their catching spot, the halos got weaker at the catching spot, i mean why would the angels signed cris iannetta when this guy lacks in his deffense? can't you see how slow its iannetta when he throws to the second base??

all in all, arencebia should be the right answer for the rangers, and nelson cruz should fit well in the jays lineup,,,

That's not a bad idea, but doesn't McCann have a pretty big contract, and who would they have to relinquish to get that deal done?

McCann's option wont get picked up because of his injury problems so the Rangers should be able to sign him on a one to two year deal that would allow him to test the market again soon. Napoli should be the Texas first baseman. I don't like giving up Cruz for a catcher when the outfield is still in the air. They need him to facilitate a trade for a bigger outfielder to compliment Hamilton and Upton, BJ or the brother, or both? If they do trade for Arencibia, they should make sure Colby Rasmus is part of that deal. Kid's a stud and would excel at the Ballpark in Arlington.
