NBC would get 'free year' if season is lost

08:24 AM ET 10.23 | While player pay would be halted, the NHL will still see plenty of funds rolling in this season even in the event of a lost year. In a way, the owner-imposed NHL lockout is being partially funded by Comcast, the Flyers' parent company. The NBC Sports Group, a subsidiary of Comcast, is paying the league about $180 million in rights fees this season -- and a network spokesman said on Monday that the NHL will receive all of that money even if no games are played in 2012-13. There is an asterisk, however. If no games are played this season, the league will grant NBC a "free year at the back end of the agreement," said the NBC spokesman, who asked to remain anonymous.

Nope. I read the full article this morning and it noted that there would be no refunds to cable subscribers (shock!). It also noted that the league has lost $330 million with the cancelled games so the $180 million saved is used up already.
