07:57 AM ET 10.24 | Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams' roller-coaster season may also include an operation. [Williams] is considering surgery on his injured left wrist during the team's bye week, The News has learned. The Bills signed Williams in March to a six-year contract worth as much as $100 million, but his production hasn't been on par with the money. He has noted his wrist injury is part of the problem. Williams had no sacks, no quarterback hits and one solo tackle in Sunday's heartbreaking loss to the Tennessee Titans in Ralph Wilson Stadium. He has 3.5 sacks this season, tying him for 32nd in the NFL. The Bills on Tuesday night had no comment about Williams' possible surgery and deferred all questions to head coach Chan Gailey.

Ahoy, Mangler!

It'd be nice if he came back from the surgery and did great, but from some of the comments his teammates have been making I think this is just an excuse for him to take it easy for a little while without anyone calling him out.

There's something about DTs and DEs... seems like when they get that big payday more towards the end of their career, they just don't want to go as hard as they used to.

Have the surgery - it'll give you an excuse for the crappy season you are having!

October 24, 2012  09:28 AM ET

Maybe you are also getting double team on every play, maybe your whole defense is bad and you stay on the field to long, maybe the 100 mill has gone to your head and now my wrist is hurting, or maybe the real reason is you are just plain over rated.

Even the Bucs wouldn't pay that salary

In the old days guys would play with broken hands, hands in casts and just gutt it out. These guys are whimps. I see a pattern that has developed over the past few years and I credit it to the players agents:
having a bad year, or play a horrible game, you dam well better be blaming it on something or your next contract will be a lot less moooooney!
