08:07 AM ET 10.24 | Kyle Lohse said Tuesday that while he was surprised Mike Matheny exercised such a quick hook in Game 7, he understood the move. Lohse now awaits free agency after constructing a 16-3 regular season that left him with the league's best winning percentage. The Cardinals have shown no inclination to engage him and agent Scott Boras in a multi-year deal. ... Despite experiencing greater success in the National League than in his formative years with the Minnesota Twins, Lohse, whose St. Louis County home has been on the market for almost two months, said he is more concerned with pitching for a contender than remaining in his current league. "I don't think I'm a National League pitcher, an American League pitcher or whatever," Lohse insisted.

Good luck in Kanas City!!!!!

Pretty soon, players are going to realize that Boras' services just aren't worth the pain and trouble he causes.

Nats have no problem working with Boras and will have a spot in their lineup (assuming they let Edwin Jackson walk). Lohse to the Nats is conceivable.

Mediocre pitcher + Scott Boras = caveat emptor

October 24, 2012  08:52 AM ET

Ugh! Scott Boras....who wants to deal with that guy?

October 24, 2012  09:07 AM ET

Kyle the interest works both ways, you have your house up for sale , and you should know the Cards are not going to give you a 100 million long tern contract, and should know they have plenty of young pitchers who are waiting to take your place in the rotation.

Good luck with that.

buyer beware on this guy.......11 years....5 winning seasons....with a lifetime 4.50 era......and the era would be higher if it wasn't for the last 2 years....not sold on this guy at all

Agreed. I've been saying all summer that some team is going to overpay for Lohse and then be very, very sorry. Glad it's not going to be the Cardinals.

VERY VERY glad it won't be the Cardinals

It's an inflated pitching market so he will get paid by someone ... question is will he get #2 starter money (what Boras will paint him as) or #4/#5 starter money (what he is currently).

I consider the 4 year deal Lohse got after the 2008 season to be Mozeliak's biggest screwup.

The Garcia deal may soon surpass it.

Yeah, I afraid it might. Jury still out on that one.

The Adam Kennedy signing was pretty stupid too, although it didn't commit nearly the same dollar amount.

If he is smart, he would stay in St. Louis...this guy will get killed in the American League.

Yeah, he got rocked pretty consistently back when he played with the Twinkies.

I think he improved a lot under Dave Duncan. At his best, he is a decent #4 starter who will eat some innings when healthy. Despite a great regular season this year though, he is not a #2 type starter. As Pride25 pointed out above, that is exactly what Boras will try to paint him as.

Anyone that buys Boras' story on that is a sucker, and will regret giving him a big contract.
