08:14 AM ET 10.24 | Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer conceded Tuesday that "four backs is too many," and the Hokies will pare down their running back rotation this week. Tech has split carries among Michael Holmes, J.C. Coleman, Tony Gregory and Martin Scales this season. Coleman is the leading rusher of the backs, with 338 yards and two touchdowns on 56 carries. Holmes has 257 yards and four touchdowns on 61 carries. Gregory (29 carries, 158 yards, TD) and Scales (23 carries, 109 yards, 2 TD) have been called on the least so far. Running backs coach Shane Beamer has long said he likes the diversity the four backs bring. But Frank thinks splitting reps that much in practice is affecting the running game's consistency.

SIsuxs...LUS has 4 backs and we are better than them...I think its the coaching... Looking at you Beamer

The LUS running game is looking better as the season goes along, that freshman especially. It needs to get better, with that passing game being even worse than UF's...smh

UF's passing game will be there when it is needed. Pease has it handled.

The passing game is the problem... Averaging 200+ rushing facing 8-9 man fronts is pretty impressive....Hill is a monster, he has all the tools... He should have been last last years class actually...

LSU did not need him last year.

I'm thinking this week would be a good time to unveil some of that.

I'm afraid Murray can hit a couple of big plays in the passing game early, and if we ever get behind early and by a good amount, running and eating clock won't be what we need.

Who cares? You are losing anyway. What's with this Beamer Ball crud anyhow? What has he done that is sooooo different than any other coach. Oh, that's right, he did get Michael Vick, the dog killer.

But Hilliard broke out last year as a freshman... And many thought Hill to be the better back when they both came out of HS.. Hilliard had the "name"
Jeremy Hill ran into some legal problems so he did not sign. LSU kept in touch with him and let him know there was a place for him once he was cleared and could sign. This time it is different for a Hilliard. When Dalton Hilliard came to LSU Gary James had the "name" but Dalton soon showed who was the productive back. Jeremy Hill is now the best back at LSU.
