03:11 PM ET 10.24 | Jay Cutler said Ndamukong Suh's hit that knocked him out of the game for one possession versus the Detroit Lions on Monday was not dirty. Cutler said it was an "awkward fall" more than the hit that briefly knocked him out of the game as he fell with Suh's knee and the ball caught against his ribs as he fell to the ground. Cutler missed the final possession of the second quarter on Monday after he was violently taken down by Suh. Cutler returned to lead Chicago to a field goal on the opening possession of the third quarter to extend his team's lead to 13-0. In response to Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall calling the hit "dirty," Cutler replied: "I'm fine it."

It was dirty. Cutler doesn't want to cause a controversy. Suh clearly did a foot sweep to aid in his effort to take Cutler down and NFL rules clearly forbids tripping. If the same type hit was leveled against Matt Stafford with his fragile shoulder, Stafford would've been out for the remainder of the year.
Yet, even more importantly, know this: It's important to learn early in life that just because you 'can' do something doesn't always mean you 'should'. Though most say the "hit" was well inside the rules of football, it was well outside the rules of good sportsmanship.

It was a legal tackle. Furthermore, it was the type of tackle you WANT players to be able to make.
Just because Cutler got hurt doesn't mean it was dirty. With all of the speed and strength on the field, awkward falls are likely to happen.

Legal? Yes. Dirty? Absolutely. A hit like that could end a career and Suh is the type of player that I would expect to take a shot like that. But it was within the rules and the Commish was right when he didn't levy a fine. I know there are a lot of dirty hits and moves that happen in every game, they're just not in the open field where everyone can see them. You have to give Cutler credit for:
1) Getting up and going back in, hopefully it will end the toughness questions because that was brutal.
2) Not whining because he's taken a beating in the press and behind a lousy O-line.
3) Smiling on the sideline instead of sulking after the hit.
4) Admitting it was legal and avoiding the poop-storm that could have followed.
I'm a life-long Bears fan and a huge Cutler fan because he is our best shot at a Super Bowl. I'm just happy he's not done for the year.
