07:42 AM ET 10.25 | Playing in Wichita didn't seem to help James Harden's game, though his Wednesday was far better than his 2-for-17 Tuesday. At this point, we're all reading tea leaves when it comes to figuring out if [Harden] will or will not sign a four-year contract extension by next Wednesday's deadline. Harden is not saying anything about contract talks. General manager Sam Presti absolutely never says anything about negotiations, or much else concerning personnel matters. Based on Harden's preseason performance, however, perhaps negotiations are weighing heavily on his mind. ... [On Wednesday, Harden] continued to struggle with the velvet shooting stroke that made him a near-unanimous choice as NBA Sixth Man of the Year last season.

He should be worried. His ghost act started in the finals, continued in usa ball and now to this season. Why would okc rush to give him big money. Some players never recover from final failures. I would wait before i give him a big contract. He's not worth max money.

QUOTE(#11):

I do agree with you.....butit would be in OKC's interest to at least offer him a 10 mil deal as if they don't they will have to pay 3-5 mil more per year if they have to match a RFA deal.him at 10 mil (is still a bit overpaid for a 6th man) but they cannot just lose him for nothing. They have to pay him- worse case senario is they can move him down the line

Could they even pull that off with having to sign ibaka too? Or did they sign him already? They would have to trade or let either one go. I'm sticking with ibaka before harden. Ibaka might be asking for the same 10mil/yr as well.

Harden's slow start could work out best for OKC in long run. At this point, I think Harden will just accept a contract from OKC for something like $11M / year -- less than what he could get in the upcoming off-season.

Rajon Rondo is an example - he got the 55 MM extension in 2009 - Has played better each year after that...

I think there are many guys who have played better with bigger contracts. (we tend to remember the flops more) Durant, Parker, Westbrook, ...
