07:46 AM ET 10.25 | The race to replace Ozzie Guillen is underway in Miami, with Mike Redmond taking an early lead. "I think it will be Redmond," an industry source closely monitoring the Marlins' opening said Wednesday via text message. The source, who is quite familiar with the inner workings of the Marlins, called Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus a "serious candidate" as well, but added his gut feeling was that "Redmond is higher on the list at the moment." That could change if and when Ausmus interviews. He reportedly floored the Red Sox. ... A source tells me Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg is on the Marlins' radar as well, but it's unclear if the Phillies would grant them permission to interview their new third-base coach.

The real question would be are the Marlins on Sandberg's or Ausmus' radars ...

Well, you have to get your foot in the door somewhere, but Miami would be pretty much the last choice I think. Not much talent, not many fans, the Miami Herald stirring the pot on a daily basis, and an over-involved owner.

If the opportunity its there for Sandberg, my guess is he should g for it,
But if brad ausmus any other candidate to the managerial position has better resume then so beat it:-) :-) :-)

October 25, 2012  01:07 PM ET

When the owners start getting in between the managers job things tend to go wrong most of the times,,,,
