07:52 AM ET 10.25 | Wholesale changes to the Tennessee football staff, should AD Dave Hart decide to go that route, won't come cheap. UT would have to pay at least $5.6 million, and perhaps as much as $9.3 million, over the next four years to buy out Derek Dooley and his coaching staff, according to an analysis of employment contracts by the News Sentinel. All but one of Dooley's nine on-field assistants are working under multiyear contracts, including defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri, Tennessee's highest-paid assistant. But the payouts to fired coaches could vary based on how quickly they find other employment and how much they are paid in their new jobs. The university would owe Dooley $5 million, or roughly $102,040 per month, through December 2016.

Spread out over five years?? Heck that is just a few extra hot dog and coke sales per game to get rid of him!!!

Better find coaches with the same pant sizes, all those orange trousers would cost a fortune to retailer.

The problem is not just paying off the current coaching staff. How much is left on paying off Fulmer and company? And how much is the UTk Athletic Department still paying Bruce Pearl for his basketball coach's salary? It adds up pretty quickly.

In reading the article, I find it interesting that the assistant coaches have a clause in their contracts that they have to make a "good faith effort" at finding another coaching gig.

Why did they ever hire Dooley in the first place?? Dooley was an unknown and a bum before Tennessee stupidly brought the wimp onboard.

Should never have let Fulmer go.

He was one of only four people willing to wear orange pants. He was the only CFB coach amongst those 4, thus he was hired.

Honestly as someone on the outside looking in, I did not understand the move at the time. Sometimes change is not a good thing! We lived in the 90's through Gibbs, Smellyburger and Blake... Although Gibbs was one hellofa def coor he was not head coaching material!

The ability to spot and hire the right coach is the ultimate test of an AD. UT is not doing well by this parameter.
