Could Bryant miss the opener?

04:23 PM ET 10.25 | Could the Los Angeles Lakers really open the season without Kobe Bryant? It's possible. The Lakers' star sat out the team's preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a foot strain, and there's some doubt that the injury will heal before next Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Dallas Mavericks. "I don't know if he'll be ready," coach Mike Brown said on Wednesday. "So yeah, I guess there is question. I'm just going to wait for [Lakers trainer] Gary Vitti to tell me he can play, because there's nothing I can do about it until they release him anyway." If Bryant cannot play, Jodie Meeks would likely start alongside Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace.

Half the league is missing the opening day/week. This season will start very slowly.

Ok, maybe not *that* slowly, and maybe a bit more upbeat. :)
